Cuttin' up the floor at Shellys

Groove Temple played Shellys on Saturday 7th March and found the venue awash with eighties fancy dress costumes. "It was nice to meet Cindi Lauper, Bon Jovi and to see John Mcenroe (complete with tennis raqcuet) dancing the night away. There were a few costumes that defied description and it must be said that the disco pimp daddy outfit was definitely purple. The band would like to wish Samantha a happy 21st birthday and Chantel a happy 30th birthday."

"Also a big hello goes out to little Samantha, Nina (Ashley's friend), Ax (the pizza man) and also to the award-winning "dancing guy"......whoever he was....he cut the floor up good, but maybe his shirt would have been a bit dirty after last night, because he spent a lot of time on his back, stomach and sides." Said lead vocalist, Ang.

Red couldn't make it, on the so A.J. filled in on drums for Groove Temple on the weekend and managed to pump out some great rhythms. The man knows where the beat is.

Groove Temple head down to Shoalhaven Heads Bowling Club on Saturday 28th March for their next public performance and will look forward to seeing the newly renovated club and trying out the new food.

Melted pool of funky groove

Yes, the weekend just gone was a hot one for Groove Temple. It's already hot enough on stage with Groove Temple, especially with the searing energy generated from dance tune after dance tune. When late summer humidity hits the east coast of Australia, party people fry. Then G.T. turns on the smoke machine and it's like a scene from Dante's Inferno.

Groove Temple saw some great happening dance floor divas on Friday night 20th Feb at the Ocean Beach Hotel at Shellharbour, with birthday parties, a going away party for local girl Sam, heading off to Europe to work and of course a hens night. -Obligatory in Shellharbour every weekend. (It's in the contract. Seems lots of people get married in Shellharbour.)

Saturday night at Husky Pub in Jervis Bay was even wilder, due to numerous visiting athletes for the Australian Triathlon series. Fit people party harder & longer. A well known fact. Also there were even more birthdays celebrated, too many to itemise here. "OK I forgot all their names. I was too busy having a good time." said G.T. lead vocalist Ang.

"A few Northern Sydney attendees commented that they rarely get to see live bands nowadays, because their local venues have mainly D.J.s which they claim are less exciting....What can I say?..tell your local publican to look up our site: groovetemple" Says Ang. "and do something wholesome, like book a live act."

Yes the G.T. is live alright, and kicking!!

Victorian Bushfire Tragedy 2009

This is a message to all Groove Temple fans and anyone with a big enough heart to dig deep into their pockets or cupboards or even our own veins to donate blood for the largest ever bushfire event in Australian History. Please help out for this horrific catastrophe. Many lives have been lost, property destroyed and people and animals still suffer.

Groove Temple hit the stage hard at the Shellharbour Workers Club on Saturday 7th February 2009 and found some eager party people ready to boogie in the venue. They helped celebrate numerous birthdays and of a course a huge hen's night. (The guys are happy because they've noticed there hasn't been a hen-free Shelly's show for Groove Temple gigs for many months now. Something's going on.)
"We also want to say hello to the 25th birthday party crew for Adam on the night. They were great fun to watch, although I'm sure some will go home with little memory of the night...that's if they made it home.. I saw two of them asleep on the footpath on Shellharbour Road on the way home. A nice little lie down!" said lead vocalist Ang.
Groove Temple next play the Ocean Beach Hotel at Shellharbour on Friday 20th February, then at Husky Pub on Saturday 21st February and will be looking forward to big nights.
The guys are also really busy working on a side project and may be seen busily scurrying around the streets of Wollongong in the next few weeks, although you'd better not blink or you'll miss them.

Cool change

"I was suffering getting ready for the Grand Hotel, Kiama gig on Saturday night 24th January 2009. It was 39 degrees Celsius at 4pm, then at about 5pm, a southerly change came through and dropped the temperature by 15 degrees. I felt like I'd been given a new lung." said band vocalist, Ang, whan asked about the gig.

Groove Temple are a three-piece party band performing mainly on the east coast of Australia and they hit the stage hot and hard every night. Forget the weather, in fact forget everything when these guys hit the stage, just get ready to boogey!!

Tourists from Canberra (and Yass) somehow made it to the venue and were loved by everyone they made contact with, locals and band alike. "I can't help but think that Canberra must be starved for decent bands, because we get treated like royalty every time we meet a Canberrian. Yeah thats a real word now!" said Ang. Perhaps being near the sea put them in a good mood, or maybe the Bourbon did. Who knows? Locals and other tourists were also in good form, and there were lots about as the Kiama Show was on. This is one of the few country shows left in NSW and worth a try if you care to connect with an icon of Australian culture. You would have to wait a year though because it finished this weekend gone.

Groove Temple spent Saturday night laying down some funky tunes, catching up with friends and certainly rocking the venue. That's what they were born to do and will continue to do with the support of the patrons of venues such as the Grand.

They're planning to do the same for their next public performance at Shellharbour Worker's club on Saturday 7th February 2009.

Whatever the weather, be assured it will be a hot time on the dance floor on Saturday night.

Groove Temple surges through the hot summer

All members of Groove Temple have announced they survived the Christmas and New Year break, with little or no damage. This was an extremely busy season for the guys, even at times having to employ fill-in drummer, "A.J". a mate of Red's from Newtown. Red has been so flat out, just simply couldn't make it to some gigs. It was ok, A.J. fit in just fine. They managed to traipse all over the country side as well as do their standard local gigs.

Venues have been hot and steamy over the past few weeks and the stages have been hot enough to fry a light tree on. "In fact" says lead vocalist Ang, "we had to run out and buy a new lighting rig, because the old one died a natural death, in it's natural environment, on stage, peacefully, it was so beautiful,....doing what it was meant to do....although I suspect if we let it go much longer, it may have taken one of us with it!!"

The guys have a lot of work to do at the moment, both on & off the stage, focussing on recording pre-production tracks for Groove Temple and their other side projects.

"This is going to be a big year but it's great to just crank it up for our regular gigs whilst all this is happening. Keeps you grounded." Said Ang. "...and there is just nothing better than watching those feet hit the dance floor once we start to funk & boogey!!"

The guys will be soon appearing at public venues such as the Grand Hotel Kiama, Shell harbour Workers and The Ocean Beach Hotel. See you there!!

chicken feathers everywhere

Groove Temple found business as usual on Friday 7th November when they returned to the Husky Pub to ruffle some feathers. Of course there was a hen's night in attendance and of course bride-to-be Kristy and her friends behaved rather badly. This included accosting innocent young members of the audience, some of which may never be the same. It is also rumoured that at least one band member is currently receiving counselling, because he was not aware that young ladies acted like that in public.
"I was just surprised to find feathers every where at the end of the first set. One young lady had a feather boa as part of her costume and used it to salaciously attack everyone in sight. It was carnage. I thought I'd seen it all until Friday at the Husky Pub. I had to have a lie down afterwards." said lead vocalist, Ang.
Groove Temple wont get much of a chance to lie down in coming weeks, due to a heavy workload. They will next appear on the well-trodden stage at the Ocean Beach Hotel, Shellharbour on Friday 14th November.
Chicken pluckers will be welcome.

Gentlemen: set guitars to stun...

...and aim the kick drum at the heart of the sun....Groove Temple blasted through the stratosphere on the weekend and delivered the funk right to the hearts of innocent bystanders at the Husky Pub on the weekend on a Saturday night for a change. The band was able to focus it's energy directly into the central nervous systems of patrons. The result was an unmistakable urge to dance. "Most were in fact fearful that resistance may have caused spontaneous nervous combustion." A nearby scientist was heard to say.

Dr K refused to comment.

Ang said after the gig: "Resistance is futile, but we are not the Borg;.........although we may be auditioning one of the Borg brothers for Bass player in our other band during the week." When asked about the 'other band' he responded only with a steely stare and a nervous twitch. Dr K stared at his feet. Red ignored the comment. A tumble weed rolled by.

After the gig, Red was exhausted so much from drumming, he just sat at his kit, regathering energy from the air around him.

He wasn't the only one exhausted. Previous weeks has seen the band working very hard at local venues such as the Grand Hotel Kiama, Shellys, the Ocean Beach Hotel and on other music projects. This week they have auditions for new members and meetings with other real musicians, not agents or managers.

The new band motto: "You sleep when you're dead."

Laying down the boogie again.

The boys from Groove Temple again managed to whip the crowd at Shelly's into a dance fever on Saturday 12th July. "We were whipping hard too!" said Ang, lead vocalist for the band. "In fact I think we may have worn them down at one stage. We opened with a 1hr35min first set and there was some carnage. A few punters had to set down for a minute whilst the more hardy party people plowed on regardless."

Groove Temple seemed to be in hyperdrive and were just keen to play. "We've been focussing on another project of late and for my part it was just good to get on stage and focuss on doing what we were meant to do on Saturday nights, and that is to lay down the boogie. Yes we've been busy making other stuff happen and talking to other muso's, which is nice for a change and an important part of setting up bigger bands.....takes up a lot of time though. Some times you just have to lash out."

After another tough week of networking, Groove Temple travel to Sussex Inlet on the weekend for the Sussex Inlet RSL on Saturday 19th July. "I think we need to make some serious party happen on Saturday night. Bring it on." said Ang, lead vocalist.

R.I.P. the winter blues

Friday 20th June 2008 was a sad day for the winter blues at the Ocean Beach Hotel at Shellharbour. Groove Temple rocked here and successfully blew the winter blues away. The heat was on. They had people shimmying, rocking, twisting, boogeying, bumping, grinding .........and this was just at the bar. The dance floor was too crowded for fancy stuff and people were dancing close, keeping warm and spreading the love.

Groove Temple lead vocalist, Ang reported that "It was great to see some regular faces at the Ocean Beach tonight, the more serious groovesters have shown persistence in attendance. The groove is reaching people. What more could we ask? For a short time, we killed the winter blues, but every good night comes to an end and we had to pack up our guitars and skins and hit the road, because the good citizens in Groove Temple have music projects to work on to make even more groove, more fun, more boogie. Very little time for rest, but you can sleep when you're dead."

The guys are pretty busy at the moment, working on a joint project for the show band circuit and don't play again publicly as Groove Temple until Saturday 19th July at Sussex Inlet RSL. "By this time, we should be jumping out of our skins. I can already feel some groove bubbling up.....ah...no that's just gas, 'scuse me. (Bloody light beer!)" Said Ang.

Icy blasts, cool grooves, hot dance floor action.

Groove Temple played the Grand Hotel, Kiama on Saturday 24th May 2008 to the usual crowd of dance starved Kiamaerians and assortment of tourists. It's surprising how many people still visit the town during winter. A number of people complained that Groove Temple do not play there often enough and should also play past 12:00 o'clock. The guys would like to apologise about that, and will try to fit more into their schedules.

The next gig on the radar was the Husky Pub on Friday 13th June and winter's icy blasts were kept at bay by plenty of hot dance floor action. Punters found themselves dancing all of the night, as Groove Temple not only smashed them with sure fire dance floor hits, but also played disco tunes on the good old mp3 player during the breaks. It worked. Nobody died of hypothermia.

The guys survived and moved on to the next gig at Shellharbour Workers Club. Luckily the winter weather did not abate so the locals had plenty of motivation to get moving and they did. "This time at least we didn't have anyone trying to steal our tambourine, or rolling around on the dance floor, but there was still plenty of unwholesome action out there that mothers would be ashamed of.....my mum wasn't there but I still behaved, mostly." Said lead vocalist Ang.

Groove Temple move on to wreak further havoc on Friday 20th June 2008 at the Ocean Beach Hotel. In the interests of good health and keeping warm during the winter months, the gentlemen of the band have expressed interest in leaving a scorch mark on the dance floor on Friday. Be there to feel the heat.

Rocking & a rolling & even sliding around on the floor

Groove Temple played at the Shellharbour Workers Club on Saturday 10th May 2008. Punters were exhuberant & wild to say the least. The presence of mind altering drugs in the water supply is suspected with at least some of the patrons. Some people just drink too much water. That must be it.

"Psychosis aside, most folks just got down and had a great time and the security guards as usual are worth their weight in gold. They protect us, our equipment and most of all, our sanity." said lead G.T lead vocalist Ang... "The rolling around on the floor fighting for possession of the band tamborine was amusing to say the least, but not very lady like. Some people would have woken Sunday morning with not just a sore head but also some bruises in strange places. Oh to be a fly on the wall....Ahh and did you get that bruise "just dancing" last night?""

Groove Temple will be witnessing more "just dancing" when they appear next at the Grand Hotel, Kiama on Saturday 24th May.

Rock On ANZACS!!

The spirit of the ANZACS rocks on. Aussie pub venues such as the Ocean Beach Hotel offer proof of the rise of Australian pride. Watching Groove Temple rev the crowd up on ANZAC Day with simple phrases such as "Aussie! Aussie! Aussie! Oi! Oi! Oi!" shows how national pride is so close to the surface in the Australian Pub goers collective physche. Playing classic Aussie Pub Rock covers also helps.

"I can remember years ago there would be hardly any Aussie flags displayed around ANZAC Day & Australia Day. Now they're everywhere, outside windows, on houses, car bonnetts and personal flagpoles are now common." Said lead vocalist, Ang, who has been singing Aussie Pub Rock covers since he was a kid.

"Being direct lineage from an ANZAC soldier certainly affects your perspective, so I appreciate the honour and respect bestowed upon our fallen soldiers. I never met my Great Grandfather because he died in WWI, after surviving Gallipoli and then being sent to Belgium and apparently suffering a direct mortar hit in the trenches. He wouldn't know what hit him. We don't think he has a grave, so we have to remember him. I have his medals. He will rock on in our memories!!"

Who needs an excuse anyhow?

There were 18th birthdays, 30th birthdays, an engagement, a wedding, a farewell and an alleged 200th birthday (this may have been unsubstantiated) celebrated on Saturday 12th April at Shellharbour Workers Club. The reality is that the good patrons of Shelharbour Workers Club need no reason to celebrate. They know how to party, and you can tell they've done it before.

One theory points to a high prevalence of the party gene in the Shellharbour gene pool.

Reliable sources advise the C.S.I.R.O.* in a joint venture with Shellharbour City Council** are trying to get to the bottom of this and are currently taking population samples. Results will shortly be published in reputable scientific journals, such as the "Lake Times" and "Drum Media".

Theories aside, the party did happen and it was a good time. The next party is scheduled after a weekend off on Friday 25th April on ANZAC Day at the Ocean Beach Hotel in Shellharbour.

Emminent scientists have warned: "It's going to be a blast, man!!"

Groove Temple cuts

Groove Temple Industries Inc have announced some major cuts in response to increasing interest rates. Fortunately the cuts were of a non-financial nature. Dr K sacrificed his fretting hand in the pursuit of higher interests. Yes folks, he cut his hand slicing bread, receiving three stitches for his troubles, temporarily disabling his playing hand. The guys had to cancel a gig on Friday at the Husky pub to ensure there was extra time for the wound to bind before performing at a very important function on the South Coast hinterland.

"The decision was made to can the Friday night with the view to resting and allowing one more day of healing before a Saturday night function for a very special lady on her wedding day. It worked out OK..........He even abstained from golf on the Saturday morning. He says that hurt much more than the injury." Said lead G.T. vocalist, Ang.

The guys came back raving about the new venue, nestled in the hills just west of Termiel on the NSW South Coast, totally surrounded by bush.

On Saturday 12th April, the guys are back to suburbia, playing Shelly's, providing there are no injuries, of course.

"I guess we roll the dice and hope it doesn't hit anyone in the eye." Said Ang.

Groove Temple Rocks

Outrageous and overexuberant dancers aside, Groove Temple had a simply exquisite night at Shellharbour Workers Club on Easter Saturday and enjoyed the company of family and made some new friends. "We would have hoped that some of the more energetic dancers had been a little less supernova, but it's hard to put out the fire sometimes." Said vocalist Ang, who went on to claim that it really wasn't the band that made certain people explode onto the dance floor. "The dance floor carnage would have happened anyway...they're pretty crazy at Shellharbour and I always reckon the audience are more entertaining than the band. There was one guy who must have had extra weetbix for breakfast because he was unstoppable, although he did rest occasionally....and his dad did give him a lift home."

Groove Temple are currently sounding pretty tight and this has nothing to do with the fit of their jeans. "We have the luxury of knowing each other's playing styles now and look forward to new challenges and new gigs coming our way." said Ang.

Groove Temple are not in hiding

No! We're not in hiding, just busy doing stuff, like playing private functions. Also having secret meetings and working on secret stuff that if you somehow found out, we'd have to kill your budgie, just for thinking about it. So don't ask. OK?

"Alright....there's been a bit of recovery mode happening too, as summer was very busy for all of us. It's not like we're lazy, just worn out." Claims vocalist Ang, who is just as guilty as the rest of them, recently doing some private consulting with an undisclosed local venue and also spending time researching for their latest project, which has been putting a smile on his face at least.

When prodded further Ang replied: "We are focussing on a project at the moment which for us is going to be the most fun you could have with your clothes on. No animals will be harmed in the production and it is legal. No further questions. This interview is terminated."

At this point a sharp blow was delivered to the neck of the unsuspecting interviewer and the transcript tape was switched off. He gained conciousness shortly afterwards. He was alone. Pinned to his jacket was a note: "Watch your back. You know too much."

Slow out of the blocks..sprinting to a dazzling finish

Groove Temple played the Sussex Inlet RSL Club on Saturday 19 January 2008 and found the going quite slow out of the blocks. The band discovered a groove starved crowd "grotesque with gratitude"* perhaps due to recent lack of live bands available to them in recent months. The poor petals didn't seem to know what hit them. At first they didn't seem to know what to do with the empty dance floor. Not to worry, it finally clicked. The venue eventually bloomed to a magnificent photo finish, similar to the sterling effort by Silver Bounty, winning the 1981 Caulfield Cup.**

The guys will be away either holidaying or working during the coming week, returning in time to celebrate Australia day (Saturday 26th Jan.) at Callala Bay RSL. The guys love to play in a new venue. Fresh victims.

**The author apologises for further reference to the 1980's, but it was a period of history apparently favoured by the good citizens of Sussex Inlet. They responded best to 80's tunes. Was it fond memories that got the juices flowing, or perhaps the fishing was better in those days?

Groove Temple played Dicey Rileys Hotel, Wollongong on Friday 11th January and Shellharbour Workers Club on Saturday 12th January 2008 and it was noticeably quiet. There was however a hardcore presence of determined young stormtroopers present at both gigs, eager to party on regardless. G.T's lead vocalist Ang noted: "...venue managers and agents alike warned us we'd be in for a quiet weekend, because it's 'that time of year'.."
That didn't stop G.T. putting in 500% effort on both nights. Ang was covered in sweat for both gigs and Red was as usual having to change shirts between sets. "It was crazy, it was like we haven't gigged for a month...The energy in this band is amazing....I'm currently drinking as much water for a full gym session...for each set...." Said Ang.
By the time G.T. arrived at the Shellharbour Workers Club on Saturday, it was obvious that a big night was going to happen. "It's a good sign when the car park is full and the Chinese restaurant is booked out.....and the food was excellent, again.." ...and again the Chinese cuisine must have fuelled the boys for a big run, as they got the joint jumping, bumping, grinding and stomping. "Obviously some people are still on holidays and celebrating so there's always something to party about. We don't need a reason, just a crowd to work with. The music does the rest."
The guys are in for a change of scenery on the weekend of 19th January 2008, as they will head down the NSW coast for the Sussex Inlet RSL on Saturday 19th, to belt out some more tunes and catch more great asian cuisine.......mmmmmmmmm....llaksa soup!!!!
"I've got my chopsticks, some fresh shirts and some boogie shoes ready." Said Ang.

Another year gone? How did that happen?

Excuse us if we've been busy but Groove Temple as a whole suddenly found that with a flurry of gigs, Christmas and new year's celebration that 2008 sneaked up. Said vocalist, Ang: "We were at a gig on Saturday night at Currarong, making plans for the new year, talking about what sort of gigs we'd be doing and Dr K and I were talking about writing some new material. I realised we were taking a fresh look at things, everything short of a new year's resolution....scary stuff man. Also how did we get so busy?...The one thing about this band is that there is never a dull moment, whether it's dealing with the odd wasted patron or simply logistics for the gigs, it keeps us busy."
"If it wasn't for the support we get from the venues and audiences, we'd be a lot quieter and life would be truly boring. SO I'd like to thank everyone who has anything at all to do with the band for your great support during 2007. We promise to make things even more fun in 2008....there you go...our New Year's resolution!!!

The No Chicken Dance Party

Groove Temple played on Friday night at the Dandaloo Hotel, one of their regular watering holes: "We treat it as a relaxing gig, as it's close to home for us. To be honest we never expect much to happen so it's a bit of a surprise when the locals go off and ask for encores." Says Ang, lead vocalist for Groove Temple. "..........and of course I had a chance to mess around with the PA settings. While I was away, my PA was being used and sullied by unfamiliar hands. She has had some interesting adjustments, which I have put to good use and some other things I didn't like at all, so I've been busy."

Then on Saturday the guys then moved on to haunt the Grand Hotel at Kiama, filling in for "Wildfire" who couldn't make it for reasons unknown. It was a big night and the venue was eventually packed. "The good part was that there was no room to do the chicken dance so we were spared. It's so relieving to go home without those horrible images in your mind." said Ang.

Rumours that there has been a political platform raised in the upcoming Australian federal elections, proposing that "chicken dancing" be outlawed on the Australian mainland. Ang commented: "It wont work, it will only drive them off shore. We should be taking more affirmative action. The death penalty would be good, but then this may attract political loonies."

Dr K refused to comment when asked.

Groove Temple played at the Huskisson Hotel on Friday 9th November and were surprised to be met by revelers of all types. It was hello to tourists and the locals alike, out in force. Dr K was seen to be punching out solid missiles of sound like silver bullets, flying directly towards the dance floor. It was carnage. The Kramer guitar he purchased in September has been proving it’s worth. He has not however forgotten about his old Fender Strat, which so far, refuses to die. This in despite of numerous recent advances in killing technology in the guitar industry.

Dead bodies were strewn throughout the venue. Mercifully, many of the wounded were put out of their collective miseries by the fine hickory shrapnel exiting the stage from Red’s drumsticks. Such is the vicious and furious precision of one deadliest drummers in the industry. Beware you innocent bystanders of Groove Temple’s gig’s. Red will also be on stage.

Says Groove Temple vocalist, Ang: "I try to stand to the side when I sing to avoid injury.....I take pride in my good health.....I get scared too. I think I know now why Michael Stipe takes drugs."

Fortunately the mess was cleared up by the end of the night and the crowd moved on, as did the band to get ready for another weekend of gigs.

Angelo Perusco returns from Italy

Whilst Groove Temple members, Dr K & Red were sloggin away doing Band Karaoke gigs at the Harp hotel on Wednesday nights, lead vocalist Ang was on leave for 5 weeks in Europe, bothering friends and relatives in England and Italy. Ang was replaced by local warbler Branko Frkovic, who managed to get four gigs in before the venue decided to change tack. Groove Temple will be back on the Karoake road train in a few weeks, possibly working the Thursday night shift, with a different approach. There will be busy consultation and pre track working for the next attack on Harp punters. For more info, see future publications on this blogsite.

Ang reports his vacation was a success and quotes his most memorable sites to be Bath in the West of England, his late father's home town of Perticara in the Novalfeltria region of Northern Italy, the centre of London, eating roasted chestnuts on the streets of Rome and the must see ancient city of Florence. He added: "The food in Italy surprisingly good. It's a culture and lifestyle thing and they take their food seriously. No amount of careful Australian home cooking can prepare you for the level of excellence found everywhere food is prepared. Then there's the legendary beer and charm of the English."

No rest for the wicked, though. Groove Temple played on Saturday 3rd November 2007 (with Ang) at the Grand Hotel in Kiama, and it was good to see the warmer weather bringing out the party crowds. Groove Temple had a monster night and the locals partied hard.

This Friday 9th November will see Groove Temple at the Husky Pub ready to rock the locals and visitors. Tourism usually starts to swell the ranks by early November and you have to get to the Husky pub early on Fridays to avoid the queues for the bistro. Worth the effort, as the food here is tres bon.

Groove Temple's exploits have continued unabated, despite heavy personal workloads and an overseas trips to get ready for. As previously published, lead vocalist, Ang will be Europe bound for 5 weeks and the band is continuing to play, but only for their Wednesday night residency at the Harp Hotel. Local Guitarist and Vocalist Branko Frkovic has kindly agreed to step in, despite pressing engagements with his own band.

Over the weekend of 14th and 15th September, the band played at Husky Pub for the Friday night and Shellharbour Workers Club on Saturday. Dr K was lucky enough to roll out his latest acquisition, a Kramer guitar replete in bullseye decoration. Ang reported that it was difficult to get the grin off his face. "This guitar has a heart of chrome and a voice like a horny angel, to quote Jim Steinman in 'Love Death and the American Guitar'.....Very impressive. He was jamming the Kramer into hyperdrive from the first song on Friday night and no wonder...the way the neck feels on that thing, it's real fast and he was grinning like a Krazy Katzenjammer kid. The razor sharp neck edge adds to the precise feel of this guitar. It's bit of a scene stealer really."

Groove Temple will perform their last Wednesday night karaoke ritual with Ang on vocals on Wednesday 19th September, before he heads off overseas. He will be back gigging for Wednesday 31st October. at the Harp Hotel.

Groove Temple had a few interesting guests on Wednesday night at their Groove Temple Karaoke extravaganza at the Harp Hotel in Wollongong.

The usual suspects arrived at around 9:00pm and took over the venue, the stage and the culture of the evening. The regulars put on the usual display of youthful exuberance and a few punters stood out from the crowd with remarkable ability. The patrons themselves are the real entertainment at the Harp

Later on Trixie Pixie began meekly and soon became queen of the stage, paving the way for what may be many fine performances for the Harp.

By 11:30 Branko was ready to make a guest appearance with some solid vocals and a great sounding Gibson guitar. He was also paving the way for future appearances, "scoping out" the venue. Branko is doing the band a solid favour filling in for Ang on guitar and vocals whilst he is away in Europe for 5 weeks catching up with friends and families who have become strangers over distance and time.

It was a nice change for the guys. They're looking forward to more guest appearances in the coming weeks and venue management sounds keen to allow anyone with the goods a chance to give it a go.

Says vocalist Ang: "I always thought that residencies are boring, but there's never a dull moment at the Harp. It's a pretty dynamic environment at the moment. Every week is different. Seriously. Right now they're installing a monster sound system with EV speakers poking out every where possible and QSC and Mackie power amps pushing the whole show along. I get to use it once it's installed. New toys are always fun. Of course, I'm not complaining..."

"I guess the next step is to see what happens next week."

Yes the guys will be back next week, come and have a yodle if you want....bring your tonsils with you!!!

Working like dogs

Groove Temple have been working like dogs in the past few weeks, having barely time to scratch their collective unmentionables. It gets busier, then it just gets busier again for the guys.

Over the past few weeks they have played:

Wednesday 8th August doing their karaoke residency at the Harp Hotel and experiencing the Joe Cockeresque vocal style of Bob on the guest microphone.
Friday 10th August at the Ocean Beach Hotel, witnessing civil unrest, twelve police cars and separate exits for nice people and naughty people.
Saturday 11th August on short notice at Dicey Rileys, walking in to the luxury of a quality in house P.A. and doing a damned fine job.
Tuesday 14th August Vocalist Ang lined up for some personal torture playing solo at Shellharbour Workers Club to the boot-scooting geriatrics. It's not the pain he's after, rather the extra cash for his upcoming trip to Europe.
Wednesday 8th August saw the guys basting in the glory of a great karaoke band night, with possibly the best night they've had there. Not bad for a new event with absolutely no promotion effort.
Saturday 18th August saw the guys back at Shellharbour Workers Club, packing the dance floor and keeping the punters well primed, despite a chronic viral infection for one band member and a severe hangover for the other.

Wednesday 22nd August will hopefully be a turning point for the band, as patronage levels will determine whether or not further marketing is required for their residency.

The guys just keep working and the work keeps coming in.

The bible was wrong

The bible was wrong. The animals did not make it onto The Ark. Somehow they found their way to Husky RSL on Saturday 4th August 2007 for the Noah's Ark Centre * Winter Ball and left a profound impression on some poor, sweet, young, innocent musicians…OK maybe not sweet and certainly not young anymore and innocence lost it’s flavour many years ago. In our client's defence your honour, we submit that they are like God’s children and are poor in spirit, thus satisfying the former criteria only, but with great conviction.

When we say animals, we mean Cats, and a menagerie of creatures and characters from Musicals. Priscilla Queen of the desert was difficult to ignore, especially on stage……..where the band was accosted and interfered with in a most unchristian manner. Ang ended up wearing a Priscilla headdress and like later, some sweaty hippy wig. Peace man.

Dr K suddenly had volumes of hair and Red was receiving a massage during a large part of his performance. This took the notion of audience participation to another level.

The boys were well and truly recovered by Sunday, but this would not have been the case for many of the good patrons of Noah's Ark, who gallantly sacrificed their own health for a good cause.

Groove Temple will be fit and ready for their next gig on Wednesday 8th August at The Harp Hotel in Wollongong, followed by Friday 10th August at the Ocean Beach Hotel, Shellharbour. Be prepared to boogie hard!!!

Groove Temple ate* and played at the Shellharbour Workers Club on Saturday 14th July and as usual the dance floor was packed for most of the night. There were a few functions in the venue and the crowds eventually flowed over for their ass shaking lessons in the Ocean View Lounge. Formally dressed groovers were actually footballers in disguise. It is truly surprising what a suit and a spruce up can do. "I thought they were investment bankers at a convention. I couldn't believe it when the manager told me they were the local football team, 'The Shellharbour Sharks' on their annual ball night....well done boys ...and ladies.... Somebody said Matt Cooper was in attendance on the night, but I couldn't say, because I don't really know what he looks like. I just know he played for St George and he hails from Wollongong. I can say that if he was there, he was dancing. Everybody was." Said Ang after the gig.

Ang also commented that he thought the venue had one of it's busiest nights ever: "The dance floor was bleeding people and the bar staff were going non stop all night." We pumped two huge sets at them and only stopped for 15 minutes to recharge and slash. This worked a treat."

Groove Temple have a big week ahead of them, playing at the Harp Hotel on Wednesday 18th July for their Karaoke Band night, then to The Husky Pub in Jervis Bay on Friday 20th July for their standard pub stomp and boogie and then on to The Illawarra Yacht Club on Saturday 21st July for some no holds barred stomping-and-a-funkin'.

As usual Ang shows a keen interest on the food for the coming week.: "Firstly, I have some left over Jambalaya to see me through some lunches during the week. This is good, because I don't like to eat on an empty stomach. Then Husky Pub will present a menu fit for a king as usual, then The Yacht Club has a reputation for quality and varied quisine, which I'm eager to test out. Someone has to do it"

*The guys like to eat at the club's Chinese restaurant before they play. They often talk business over a meal there but more often than not they just goose around with the staff.

Saturday 7th July was a quiet one for Groove Temple at The Fraternity Club in Fairy Meadow. Most venues in the Illawarra reported a quiet one, so the guys weren't trailblazers on the night. Ang was particularly happy. "I didn't get home stinking of cigarettes, just of me, which can be worse, I agree....anyway we did have expectations that venues would suffer with the implementation of anti smoking laws. So there were no surprises."

Groove Temple however were smoking again and loved the venue:

"A new venue is always good and the Fraternity Club has this great cafe bar open all night, right near where you play. How could you not love the Italians? It's all about food, and I'm not complaining. Quality munchies, deadly pasticerria, gourmet pizzas. A musician could put a lot of weight on doing this gig. Danger, danger, danger!! No wonder my mate Sammy Folino plays there in 'The Latin Beats' every Saturday night. He's a smart man."

G.T. will be at Shellharbour Workers on Saturday night and possibly doing a fill in for one of the local musicians on Friday night who was a bit ill last week. "This MIGHT be at Dicey Riley's, but we'd prefer if Charlie Harper got better." according to Ang.

Whatever happens, the boys will be smokin' again!!

Groove Temple have been on the road a long time and found it refreshing to be playing through an excellent in-house PA with even more excellent PA crew on Friday night at Dicey Riley's in Wollongong. Says GT lead vocalist: "Most of the time we use my PA, and shun many in-house systems because they can be crapp, but the RCF/Yamaha monster own and flown by Tracee & Branko is sweet and the PA crew, Tracee, Branko & Tim are slick pro's and they're good people. Works fine for us. We hope to be back there again, especially since the new anti-smoking laws come into effect in July. I'd really forgotten how smoky it gets in Diceys."

The guys are ready to smoke another venue on Saturday 30th June at the Greenwell Point Bowling Club. "The locals are usually quite interesting. Greenwell Point is truly a great gig because the locals appreciate a good night. Greenwell Point is on the coast, east of Nowra. It's still an unspoilt town. Few people know about it. Just be grateful you don't live next to the venue. The locals are wild.

Groove Temple played another extra gig during the week, again filling in for The45's, a band that GT's lead singer Ang has been supporting and moonlighting with on Wednesday nights at the Harp Hotel in Wollongong. It was a quiet night, that is until some vociferous locals' vocals started thundering throught the PA. Wednesday is a band karaoke night and there are few shy ones at the Harp.

Friday night at the Dandaloo Hotel was far from quiet and it was a surprise to GT to see so many dancing and grooving it out. "I thought I'd died and woken up in a different venue. There were people dancing on tables, one-legged and even some paralytic...it's a miracle......Oh yeah and there was a drought breaking rain. Seems were getting good at playing up a storm." Management had no explanation as to why the venue was so crowded. The bad weather should have had the opposite effect and kept them away, but the car park was full and the punters were in fine form. Maybe its a sign of things to come.

Friday 22nd June will see Groove Temple at Dicey Riley's for the first time as a band. Lead vocalist Ang is excited because he gets to use his newly reconditioned amp after being overhauled by Glen at rockdog amplifier repairs. Get ready to hear some seriously juicy sounds. "Light touchpaper and stand well clear."

Groove Temple played the Shellharbour Workers Club on Sunday 9th June 2007, after much excellent Chinese quisine. "I would like to personally thank God, or Charles Darwin, or whoever is prepared to take credit for developing China as a nation and thus allowing us to partake of such delectable food items as Szechuan Beef.....In fact if I meet him or her, I will buy them a beer, rice wine or any other drink of their choice." Said G.T. lead vocalist, Ang, who seemed to miss the point about playing the Shellharbour Workers Club. To be fair he did say the gig was a blast and he would like to play there again. Luckily, Groove Temple dates have been blocked up by the venue for the rest of the year.
Ang was also excited about his sound on the night: "I had the opportunity to play through Dr K's Peavey Classic 50 Amp http://www.guitar.com.au/amplifiers/electric/peavey/index.htm on Saturday. The good doctor swung me a solid as my Blues Deville is at Rock Dog's shop for repairs. http://http://www.rockdog.com.au/ It has travelled tens of thousand of kilometres and thrashed out hundreds of gigs since I purchased it, second hand from www.haworthguitars.com.au about 4 years ago. Anyhow I'm having a good run and I'm enjoying having to thinking about making my sound better.

Getting back to the gig, Ang & Red were amazed at the end of the night to be involved in an argument with one guy who was totally livid that the band did not play any Van Morrison, even though they did. "Not much point in arguing, but we did keep an eye on him, as he was growing extra eyebrows and appeared to not be on the bright side of happy. Turns out he eventually went away," remarked Ang. "There isn't a court in the land that would convict us. We are fine, righteous, truthful citizens!"

The guys will be eager to show their musical integrity next weekend, with an appearance at the Dandaloo Hotel on Friday 15th June. There is a mystery gig on Saturday, as a venue in Bondi has not yet confirmed for 16th June. This date will only be added to the website if Groove Temple performs. www.groovetemple.com.au

Football is the real problem

G.T. scored an extra gig during the week, filling in for local band The 45's on Wednesday at the Harp Hotel for their regular karaoke band night. Guritarist Shaun from the 45's damaged a finger playing football. G.T. Vocalist Ang has been moonlighting with the 45's. So G.T. were the obvious choice for a fill in.

The guys then moved on to graze on the Shellharbour night life at the Ocean Beach Hotel, funding an eager, energetic crowd hanging for a good night. They got one. G.T. rocked the house. No prisoners were taken, although police did take away a few recalcitrant football players for failing to play nice. Generally speaking though, it was a very well behaved, grooving crowd.

Saturday 2nd June was The Grand Hotel's turn for some blistering guitar funk rock and GT were again entertained by the antics of the locals, some of whom were out to celebrate special events, such as birthdays and weddings, other were just out to kill their quota of Saturday night brain cells.... "and I must say a few patrons did more than their quota.." remarked lead vocalist Ang. "Which is just as well, because somebody has to do it, and we can't do it for them...OK?"

The guys will be back at the Shellharbour Workers Club on Saturday 9th June and are looking forward to doing some profound neural damage. So if you are in need of party time, come on down to see Groove Temple on Saturday night. We wont tell your mum.

Husky Rides Again

The Husky Pub http://www.thehuskypub.com.au/ was in fine form on Friday night 25th May, with some tourists from Penrith trying to pack in as much fun as possible before pub closing time of 12:00. They complained to lead singer Ang, that their usual nightclub, Penrith Panthers closes at 4pm, so they were just getting ready to party when the pub shut down for the night.

"Well you're not exactly in the big smoke when you're in Huskisson and besides the possum that lives in the pub yard has to get some sleep some time! Also my mum said I can't be out too late."

It was a chilly night and some dancers were really only moving to keep warm. Early on it looked like one of those Richard Simmons videos.

The guys will certainly be busy next weekend, playing at the Ocean Beach Hotel on Friday 1 June and The Grand Hotel, Kiama on Saturday 2 June. It will be party hard time again and the guys are keen to get out and blast away cobwebs and any residual detritus left from their recent time off.

The Guys from Groove Temple have been in hibernation the past few weeks, doing stuff like jetting across the country on holidays and doing plenty of industry “meet and greets” for promotional purposes.
“We have been gigging, just a bit less due to busy schedules. This band is in the groove and pretty much always on the move.” Says vocalist, Ang. “….and we’re playing some new gigs in the next few months. It’s more interesting that way. Hey, if you can’t change your undies, then change gigs, it feels the same!!”
Groove Temple eagerly await their next Husky Pub gig on Friday 25 May and look forward to rocking the dance floor.

The World Famous Spilt-Drinks-Whilst-Dancers

Groove Temple played at the Husky Pub on Friday 23 March 2007 to more displays of ridiculous dancing, public displays of affection (PDA's) and girl on girl kissing. Nobody seemed to be complaining. Tourists from Sydney were out in force, haunting the venue with evil intent, made obvious by the previously mentioned PDA's. Disturbing incidences of spilt-drinks-whilst-dancing drew appalled reactions from the band, who spent a considerable amount of time licking the carpet after the show. This lead to an OH&S complaint, especially from Groove Temple temporary roadie "Egg" after receiving glass splinters in his tongue.
Similar scenes were evident on Saturday night for a big show at Shellharbour Workers Club. There were certainly less wounded, as club security is effective in keeping drinks off the dance floor, and into the patrons. It could be argued that they are therefore performing a public service and should be eligible for Public Service work conditions, such as Flexitime and handsome Superannuation pay outs. Just a thought guys. Tell John Howard, he might give you a hug if you ask. Ohh great, more PDA's!
The boys have now recovered from the weekend and eagerly look forward to the next gig. See you there!!!

A bullet through the heart

Groove Temple played at the Dandaloo Hotel on Friday 23 February for a quiet, relaxing night. The audience were most appreciative and mostly well behaved. For a short time, there was a fourth member of the Groove Temple stage line up, from approximately 10:05pm to 10:006pm, right until the gentleman in question was ejected from the premises for extreme intoxication. Apparently this is no longer a national sport, and may even be dropped from the Olympics program.

Ang seemed preoccupied most of the night, assessing a set of Fender Bullets on his Fender Telecaster: "Dr K has a sponsorship deal for his strings and has recently been raving about "top heavy, bottom light" strings for more cut and clarity in his sound. Personally, I don't believe he needs it as much as I do, because he has some clever e.q. control. These beauties are 11's on first string to only 48's on sixth. I'm staying in this zone, it cleans up my sound. It was an enjoyable night. I just love finding out new stuff like that. I play my Telecaster through a Blues Deville 410 and it's a monster, with way too much bottom end, so it's good to get a result with some experimenting"

Hangover Cure -Incredible breakthrough

University Researchers in conjunction with Groove Temple Industries* and Groove Temple Laboratories* have announced a decisive defeat in the battle against hangovers. Primary subject and Groove Temple front man Ang Perusco admits to years of failures:
"Myself and the expert technicians (various bar staff) involved have trialled many methods in an attempt to find the real answer.
The revelation was a lightning bolt, like a D note on the 10th fret of Doctor K's Gibson Guitar. Brilliant ideas are usually very simple ones and this was no exception. I was holding court at the bar, mutually exploring options with some of the highly respected bar technicians at the Shellharbour Workers Club on Saturday night, discussing various hangover cures. Some incredible suggestions surfaced, such as vegemite & oyster sandwiches. This remedy was in danger of reminding me of the two things that usually get me there in the first place, so we ignored it.
The remedy that made the most impression was the one involving abstinence. Nobody at the bar knew exactly how it worked, or even what the word really means and perhaps we were all too scared to find out. Some things are better left alone.....I must admit I tried it once and it works."

Groove Temple ran the gauntlet of a post boxing match bout at the Shellharbour Workers Club with waves of aspiring boxers haunting the club after their auditorium fights on Saturday night 17 February 2007, and found that it didn't matter who was in the audience, -it's all about the groove. They danced until they stopped, dropped or flopped. The GT boys had a good night and went home with big smiles.

Groove Temple will be flogging it again on Friday at the Dandaloo Hotel on Friday 23 February 2007, hoping to stir the pot at Kanahooka and get some people boogying. Bring it on.

Groove Temple storms Kiama

Groove Temple would firstly like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by their no-show on Friday 9th February at the Husky Pub, Huskisson. There was a misunderstanding which led to a double booking. The guys did turn up, but ending up cruising home with some beers when the error was discovered. Saturday night made up for it.
Kiama was the subject of thunder and lightning on the weekend, with Groove Temple drawing on energy from the ether to power their Fender guitars to slash their way through some hefty dance sets. Nobody knows the reason for the fancy dress party on the night, complete with wigs and novelty glasses. The theory is that the infamous Dr Frankeinstein put the latent electrical energy to creative use and constructed a small army of funky dancing zombies. They took over the dance floor. Unfortunately the problem was contagious as band members ended up wearing some fancy dress as well.
Not all of Dr Frankenstein's experiments went well though, as one poor soul, obviously with flawed genetic code was sadly found tampering with Groove Temple equipment and had to be sent home to his mother. Legend has it that he has been doomed to wander the earth in a soul-less state, looking for shiny things with which to play. May he find peace.
The guys will be fired up and ready to go again on Saturday 17th February, when they tighten the bolts to storm the Shellharbour Workers Club at 10:30 p.m. They will play well into the night, Igor.

Groove Temple assertively assailed the audience at the Ocean Beach Hotel on Friday 2nd February, deciding to present with two huge, dance-packed sets. The punters accepted the challenge by crowding the dance floor for the whole of the night. No prisoners were taken, although it was obvious that some people did take a friend home. Yes, there was some healthy “socialising” going on, and most of it was on the dance floor. Groove Temple helped spread the love, baby, via the process of some funking groovy tunes.

Lead vocalist Ang said “It was like a Petri dish down there on the dance floor. Mother Nature was making its move on the citizens of Shellharbour and the seeds of love were germinating. Such a wonderful thing….Well kind of disgusting really, but obviously still fun, or it wouldn’t keep happening…..”

Groove Temple will be spreading more love on the weekend of 9th and 10th February, playing Husky Pub, Huskisson, on the Friday then the Grand Hotel in Kiama on Saturday. They will be looking forward to helping spread the love again. This is what it’s all about. See you there. Bring a friend.

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oi!, Oi!, Oi!

Groove Temple viciously seared the collective social environment, known as "Huskisson" on Friday 26th January 2007, Australia Day, with some kicking grooves and seriously funky tunes. The audience didn't need much encouragement and patriotically and drunkedly screamed the traditional "Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oi!, Oi!, Oi!" at various unsolicited intervals. Enthusiastic and Irrepressible aptly describes most of the punters on Friday, with Australian Flag tatoos, Aussie flags, Boxing Kangaroos and the stars of the Southern Cross finding their way onto the dance floor.

Groove Temple relentlessly plastered the Husky Pub punters with distinctly Australian rock tunes from artists such as INXS, Cold Chisel, The Angels, Daddy Cool, Paul Kelly and Johnny Diesel. Merciless...and it was efficacious in every way.
Many wild ones were ejected by vigilant security guards for anti-social behaviour-as many as 60 on the night. The remainder of the crowd was well to capacity and a great Aussie traditional stomp ensued with full venue participation. A night to perhaps rival Xmas or New Year's Eve.

The guys from G.T. will be just as fired up for their next gig on Friday 2nd February at the Ocean Beach Hotel at beachside Shellharbour and expect to see some familiar faces and hope to fully rock the dance floor again. See you there. You can't afford to miss out.

Disturbing Patterns Emerging from GT Live Performances

Following on from the now infamous 'Sparkles' incident, another GT band member has developed a lust for inanimate objects. The object of desire is the chrome 'Mud Flap Girl' (MFG) on the Doctor's guitar and the pervert lusting is non other than GT's lead singer Ang.

It seems Ang's modus operandi is to lick and rub the MFG at every opportunity, the Doctor comments: "It is really quite difficult to play when a deviant like Ang sneaks up from behind. I would have given him a clip round the ears, but alas my commitment to the music is paramount, I refuse to drop a note, even in the most adverse of working conditions."

MFG $5.95, Ang's behaviour deplorable, the look on one young girls face, priceless. GT Card, accepted at all venues where depravity prevails.

Anyway Saturday night at Shelly's was a cracker, thanks Jimi for warming the crowd up. No suprises there, the crowd at Shelly's really loves to party and party hard they did.

GT will be back at Huskinson on Australia Day to fire up the barbie for some char grilled Dolphin, yum, see ya there. In the meantime the Doctor will be seeking an AVO on behalf of MFG and is consulting with his personal guitar technician to have an electrical current passed through MFG to deter sick bastards with wayward tongues.

Small, But Receptive Audience

Well this week Groove Temple can report that we played quite literally to a small audience, as the average age of the audience was six. Funny thing is the little guys really got into it and were having a great time until sadly they were asked to leave, as it was well past their bed time and club rules disallow minors in the club after 9:30pm.

Once Groove Temple's biggest (littlest) fans were removed, forcibly in some cases, there remained a, well need I say it, small, but appreciative audience. Anyway GT had a great time and sucked as much energy out of the little guys to power them for a massive night at Shellharbour Workers Club next Saturday. See you there.

Side Note: Groove Temple management wishes to categorically deny rumours that the band will be conducting an Australian tour of ABC learning centres.

Christmas?....Oh that thing!

The New Year started and Groove Temple slotted right in like Christmas never happened. It can be like working in a mine. Busy schedules left little time for recovery and some of the G.T. crew did struggle getting to gigs on time, but that didn’t stop them one bit. The juices were flowing and the groove was pumping, whether people wanted it or not.

Friday night at the Dandaloo Hotel was a surprise meeting for old friends and a chance for the past to sneak up and say boo! to “Gibbo” (one of Red’s friends).

The conversation went something like this:
Gibbo: “Hey mate, great drumming there”
Red: “Thanks mate, we’ve actually met before. We were on a ski trip a few years back and very nearly got arrested. I’m Red”
Gibbo: “Oh yeah………..you look different now.”

Saturday night at the Greenwell Point Bowling Club was an outstanding success and the ball polisher machine in the hallway next to the bistro door was put to good use.

Groove Temples’ number one fan “Dazza” was in attendance, vigorously shaking hands, insisting on photo opportunities and even helping load out gear for the guys. Such a gentleman. Thanks Dazza.

The guys were well pleased with the result on the night, commenting that it was great to see some “unusual” dancing skills being employed, although it appears some people may not have been aware that their skills would be viewed as “unusual”.

G.T. will be at the Shoalhaven Heads Bowling Club on Saturday 13th January, for a long awaited return. They haven’t been there since 2005. Things may have changed, and Ang commented: “I don’t care if every thing has changed there, just so long as the food is still good.”

Good to see some people don’t lose sight of the important things in life.

Although there have been many highs during the year that was 2006 none were more exciting than the addition of Groove Temple's newest member 'Sparkles' The Keno Bear. Unfortunately Ang, lead singer and principle recalcitrant had to let 'Sparkles' go due to the beautiful, but violently disturbing relationship that ensued with GT's Dr K, Ang reports: "We were really firing as a band, then out the corner of my eye I could see a vigorous thrusting of the hips and and Sparkle's head being driven into the stage. I had to act quickly and offloaded sparkes immediately by passing him off as a prize to the best dressed dancer on the floor. Relationships between band members is a sticky and at times furry experience and only ever lead to tears and Fleetwood Mac inspired songs. Such behavior will not be tolerated."

Anyway to all our fans who have supported us throughout the past year many thanks and much love. We look forward to catching up with you guys in 2007.

A Druid Christmas?

Groove Temple conquered the South Coast of NSW on the weekend of 15th & 16th December, thoughtfully helping Christmas on its way by facilitating hangover installations in the towns of Huskisson and Kiama. Friday 15th saw Groove Temple and the patrons of the Husky Pub thrashing around the dance floor in an uncontrollable manner. Par for the course at Huskisson. A new cultural phenomenon was discovered. Small groups of people were found to be taking their shoes off, piling them onto the centre of the dance floor and dancing around them in an ancient form of tribal dance ritual. Much like Druids. This poses the question; “Do Druids have Christmas parties?”

The Grand Hotel at Kiama on Saturday was a horse of a different colour. Not only was it very busy, but a special visitor arrived. Groove Temple would normally expect a yearly visit from not only Santa Claus, but also from Reg Reagan. So far this year, Reg had failed to deliver and the boys were sadly resigned in the belief he had forgotten them. However, Mr Reagan finally turned up on Saturday, much to everyone’s delight. He’d been busy partying all year and had just come from a Christmas party in Kiama. Reg stormed the Grand Hotel with an impromptu, energetic floor show that may permanently scar the memories of all that attended. Thanks Reg and Merry Christmas to you and your loyal followers. Forgive them Lord; they know not what they do. (LUKE 23:24)

The Christmas weekend will see Groove Temple performing on Saturday 23rd December at Shellharbour Workers Club and on Christmas Eve at the Ocean Beach Hotel, for a "huge one Darryl!!" Punters are warned that access to the Ocean Beach Hotel on Christmas Eve is by pre-purchased ticket only. There will be no door sales on the night, so ring the venue early on (02) 4296 1399 for ticket details. Be prepared to be bad for Santa!! We wont tell your mum.

The Pacific Ocean waves gently lapped on the shore near Addison St, Shellharbour on Friday 17th November as a slight sea breeze kept Australian spring temperatures down to the low 20’s. The Ocean Beach Hotel was a peaceful scene during the early evening, with scores of people enjoying the balcony area overlooking the million dollar view. Not for long: -Ang, Red and Dr K climbed onto the stage and soundly blasted cobwebs from the venue and possibly some neighbouring buildings. The crowd responded best to “old school” on Friday night. Nobody knows why.

The clientele seemed shocked at first, then after a short period of adjustment found the dance floor and its purpose. Pretty soon it was grooving room only on the dance floor. Groove Temple had again made its mark. Some danced to exhaustion, some dance to forget. Some forgot where they had placed their drinks, some forgot how to dance, but that didn’t stop them. Groove Temple left the venue as if on a cloud. There were no illegal substances involved.

Saturday 18th November found Groove Temple hiking down to Sussex Inlet, playing the local RSL. The guys hit the stage after some serious refuelling with quality Chinese cuisine and punched some serious grooves out to the largely appreciative audience. Ang was seen to jump off stage on more than one occasion and utilised the dance floor for his own grooving. He claims he was relishing the excellent sound quality in the venue and commented:

“I was getting into it, but to be fair, I wasn’t the only one. Dr K played at least two songs from the dance floor. Also as the band’s sound engineer I have a legitimate excuse to wander. I have to make sure I get out front for a listen. It just happens that when I get out there, its fun to goose around a bit. Might as well enjoy myself whilst I’m there. Yeah, sure sometimes I harass people when I’m there, but I think they expect it, and those that don’t expect it remember it. So far, very few people have died from this.

Lately we’ve been taking a holistic approach to our sound. We're all having a listen and adjust our sound levels to suit. I guess the band is evolving again. We sound clearer and punchier. I like it.”

Red claimed:"Yeah, its all good but they just suddenly disappear on me during the set. So I'm on stage playing on my own. It makes me feel very unloved."

Groove Temple will be back at one of their favourite haunts this weekend when they harass locals in Dr K’s home town at the Shellharbour Workers Club on Saturday 25th November 2006. Should be fun.

World’s first motorized guitar.

Saturday 11th November 2006 was indeed an auspicious occasion for guitarists and scientists alike, when competing disciplines of “computing science” and “reverse robotics” were successfully employed to create the world’s first motorized guitar. Its stage debut at the Greenwell Point Bowling Club was hailed a complete success. Lovingly nicknamed “Victa”, this device was developed and funded fully by Groove Temple Industries* and is regarded as the crowning achievement for Groove Temple Laboratories*. Chief scientist, Dr K is currently the only certified user on Earth and holds patent rights and copyright for the training material. Operating specs were not made available to Groove Temple News* as parent company Groove Temple Inc has ordered all employees sign confidentiality agreements.

Rumours circulated on the night that Dr K has astutely positioned himself to increase his cash flow from sales of the training material. He holds exclusive training manual copyright. Other sources, who declined to be named, advised that the motorized guitar runs on 2-stroke, unleaded fuel and conforms to Kyoto Protocol emission control guidelines. No emission odours could be detected in the stage vicinity, although there are often unrelated, pervasive smells in Groove Temple surrounds. Chairman of the board for Groove Temple Environmental Services*, Sir Marmaduke Peregrine III was not available for comment. His staff reported he is currently on a water-skiing holiday on the upper reaches of the Darling River, NSW.

Groove Temple will be thoughtfully invading personal spaces in local South Coast venues on the weekend of 17th, 18th November and look forward to clearing some cobwebs, thought processes and possibly nasal passages at the Ocean Beach Hotel in Shellharbour Friday and at the Sussex Inlet RSL on Saturday. White lab coats would of course be optional.

Considerable heat has been thrown off the stage at Groove Temple performances in recent weeks. Coincidentally, Australian authorities have finally expressed concern about Global Warming issues and their lack of involvement in the Kyoto Protocol. The band would like to think that they have somehow influenced the halls of power. However they visited coastal towns in NSW and were collectively appalled at the ridiculous cold weather and the worry is that Government initiatives in this direction may be subject to political attention deficit disorder. It’s not hot anymore: “What global warming??”

Groove Temple played on Saturday 28th October at Shellharbour Workers Club, along with local vocalist Louise, who primed up the crowd for the boys and made their night just that little bit easier. Thanks Louise for your support. The locals were even more supportive, filing on to the dance floor with some energetic, grooving, gyrating and jiving moves. Some people even danced. It was a great fun night according to management on duty.

Saturday 4th November saw the guys playing the Sussex Inlet Tavern, for yet another blustery, cold spring evening. Ang claimed the stage lights kept him warm, which was just as well, as the DJ appeared to be trying to save electricity by turning off the house light rig during Groove Temple’s sets. Obviously he was doing his conscientious best to contribute to the reduction of global warming. He claimed however not to know who David Suzuki was. Go figure.

Groove Temple played at Husky Pub at Huskisson, on the NSW South Coast on Friday 20th October, finding themselves hosts to a few celebrations, notably one young lady having a milestone birthday. Erica and her friends owned the dance floor on Friday and did not give it up for anyone. Happy Birthday Erica from the guys from Groove Temple.

During the evening, the weather turned nasty, with a chilly southerly blowing through early in the evening. Not so with the patrons of the pub. Attendees were mostly in royal party moods, dancing feverishly, possibly to keep warm.

Groove Temple managed to work up a sweat on the night, spending their time focusing on dance floor grooves and it paid off. The dance floor was the busiest spot in the venue. Well done guys!

interpretive dance?

Groove Temple blasted back from a well deserved break on Friday 13th October, landing firstly at the Dandaloo Hotel, Kanahooka, with no discernable injuries. This may not be the case for some punters who most likely put a backbone or two out of place whilst trying on some choreographic gymnastics in the form of bum-wiggling and the ever popular hip-grinding.

The new dance moves created on the night were not recorded for posterity’s sake, which is probably a good thing. Lead vocalist Ang remarked: “The interpretive dance on the night was art in its truest form*, although it may be described by some as as a black art, as the evening did take a turn for the worst when one gentleman decided to lower himself in the scale of humanity by lowering his trousers for comedic effect.....It had very little aesthetic appeal.......It wasn’t me”.

Band members were seen to be desperately averting their eyes, in their efforts to avoid psychological damage. Nevertheless the evening ended with no injuries, deaths, jail terms, cruelty to animals, nor sworn career changes.

Saturday found G.T. back at the Grand Hotel in Kiama to a great dance vibe and a chance to catch up with some locals and Groove Temple fans. The presence of formally dressed punters was a little surprising for the band. There was a charity ball on in town and apparently many patrons were able to escape early to get in some beers and some dance floor grooves with GT before closing at their favorite local.

Also Kiama's cricket team won their first game for the season on Saturday and celebrated in Grand style. With luck, they may have fully recovered by the next game.

Groove Temple will be at the Husky Pub, Huskisson on Friday 20th October. They are according to reports, eager to see the locals performing at their best, as the punters are wont to throw themselves around a bit. Maybe they should do some stretches before they start.

The risk you take.

Currarong, the best kept secret on the NSW coast was as usual, breathtakingly beautiful as were some of the dancers at the Currarong Bowling Club on Saturday night. This is arguably the best time of year in the coastal resort towns, as the tourist numbers aren’t too bad and the weather isn’t too hot. The sun doesn’t fry you during the day and having a bit of a groove on the dance floor at night doesn’t mean breaking out in a lather of sweat. Not unless you dance like some of the punters at the Currarong Bowling Club on Saturday. Non stop partying and rolling around on the floor will tend to put a few hairs out of place, and maybe smudge some mascara. This is the risk you take.

Groove Temple were chuffed to see locals and tourists alike mixing it up on the dance floor on Saturday 30th September and look forward to playing there again some time.

The guys have the weekend of 6th and 7th October off. It is a much needed break. There will be some travel and relaxing involved. Essential beach and fishing time will also be attended to.

The guys are back in full swing for the following weekend, playing at the Dandaloo Hotel, Kanahooka on Friday 13th October and then the Grand Hotel, Kiama on Saturday 14th October. They should be itching to play by then.

Desperately dancing to forget

Scores of eager dancers hit the dance floor at the Shellharbour Workers Club on Sat 23rd September, trying hard to forget that St George/Illawarra lost to the Melbourne Storm that night. Whilst Groove Temple remains based in NSW, it is incumbent on them to voice apology for playing up such a storm as to tip the metaphysical scales in the favour of the Mexicans.

Ang, vocalist for GT skirted the issue: “These things are beyond earthly influence, we are innocents and pawns of the gods; They say we play, they say they dance. We are powerless mortals.........give me a break alright!! I was just singing and playing my guitar and had nothing to do with it...........Crikey, I hope we do better in the AFL, or we’ll have to start wearing disguises.”

Luckily the game was over before Groove Temple hit the stage on Saturday, so the punters did not have to see the looks of anguish on the band's faces.

Ang was last seen fretting over the carcass of a chicken in hope of good fortune for the Sydney Swans in the AFL. His last comment was. “Has anyone seen my lucky undies?”

Groove Temple will again face the music on the October long weekend, playing at the Currarong Bowling Club for Saturday 30th September. The long weekends are usually huge there. Groove Temple will be ensuring there is plenty to boogie about. People are going to need it.

Thursday:
Groove Temple were fortunate to be able to assist in some life saving medical research at the HSSA – PCTG Joint Conference at Batemans Bay on Thursday 14th September. The results are in and G.T.'s spokesman has issued the following public statement:

“Groove Temple have been able to determine through independent contracted research, using highly trained teams of pissed medical administrators and patient care professionals that good time boogie fever can cure almost every disease known to man, until the morning after, and everybody knows there’s no pill for that! We're just hoping this finding doesn't upset the pharmaceutical companies too much."

Many delegates reported near death experiences earlier in the night and were grateful for the efficacious effects. Luckily there were plenty of heavenly angels available to assist with spiritual enlightenment. Unfortunately they seemed to be behaving in a very unchristian manner. Perhaps the presence of the she-devils had much to do with it. Also it was interesting to see so many Harry Potters throwing some funk on the fire. Emily Howard managed to drag her frail frame onto the stage for a burlesque accompaniment of Groove Temple’s grand finale. She was assisted by Emily Howard II and Emily Howard III, a blinding vision of unmatched beauty that will permanently scar the subconscious of the whole band. Thank you so much gentleman. Groove Temple’s medical administrators will be sending you the bill for psychotherapy:

Now repeat after me…. “My name is NOT Emily Howard and I am NOT a lady!!” (Spoken in a falsetto, faux-femme voice)

Groove Temple vocalist, Ang reported that he was happy to see so many people having a good time and behaving so badly on the night. Nobody got hurt, no furniture was harmed during the night, although there was one chair "broken in" by a brunette with an English accent. He commented: "These people know how to boogie down, shake hips and party hard........Hey, isn’t that multi-skilling? Does this mean increased competencies and thus increased pay for all conference delegates?”

Friday:
The next day a beautiful Batemans Bay morning emerged from a post party haze and the conference continued, but not for Groove Temple who, after the equivalent of eight hours sleep*, had to motor back up the coast to relight the fire at the Ocean Beach Hotel in Shellharbour. The Ocean Beach was seriously shaking on Friday 15th September and the locals managed to behave quite well, which is a rare event for Shellharbour. Venue management have advised that construction crews are due in on Monday and confirm the foundations will be re-set by mid week. There were too many birthdays to mention on Friday. So many parties, so little time.

Saturday:
The Greenwell Point Bowling Club, still the best kept secret on the South Coast was also host to numerous birthday parties on the weekend, but none so well celebrated as Dazza’s. This man is a serious party machine and well known local. Happy 38th Birthday Dazza, from Groove Temple and all your good mates at Greenwell Point.

Groove Temple will be performing next on Saturday 23rd September at the Shellharbour Workers Club from 10:30 and look forward to a big night with the locals. Locals say that there should be heaps of footie players there, with licences to party.

*Actual sleep time achieved may not be 8 hours. Ang reported that he only slept 6 hours, but that during this time he dreamt that he slept for three hours, so this is "the equivalent" of nine hours. He stated: "I think therefore that I overslept, which is obviously why my head felt so bad this morning. Yeah, that's it...Hey guys, does anybody have any pharmaceuticals?"

Unseasonable weather, uncontrollable fits.

Unseasonable cold weather in the coastal resort town of Huskisson has led to uncontrollable fits, described as being similar to dancing. Groove Temple reported this phenomenon actually struck unsuspecting locals on the evening of Friday 8th September 2006 at approximately 21:00 hrs and continued unabated until almost midnight. Groove Temple vocalist, Ang was clearly upset by this and commented: “…..I was quite distressed to see innocent, young, upstanding citizens fall prey to this tragic condition. Venue management offered a specially brewed antidote, but this only seemed to make matters worse....”

Fortunately a competent medical officer was available to offer assistance.

“We were lucky; Doctor K (Doctorate in FunKology) was able to assist with a surgically precise direct hit on the venue with some screaming licks and cool funky wah. This had a profound effect on the good patrons of the Husky pub and they soon turned into a seething groovy bunch of hip-grinding rockers. Pretty nasty really. We can only hope his mum doesn’t find out….”

The band’s cheif medical officer, Dr Nick Rivera reported that recovery is apparently only temporary and that symptomatic treatment is the only recourse. Legal counsel for the band has just resigned.

In the interest of public safety and to further Australia’s excellent international record of ground-breaking medical research, this remedy will be clinically tested by a consultant panel of medical experts at a private location on Thursday 14th September 2006 at Batemans Bay. This performance is not open to the public, as these tests must be conducted under controlled conditions. Of course.

Results will be reported in respected medical journals such as Groove Temple News.

More good medicine will be available to the general public on Friday 15th September at the Ocean Beach Hotel in the beautiful coastal, restaurant-rich township of Shellharbour and on Saturday 16th September at the best kept secret on the coast, Greenwell Point Bowling Club.

Grilled Fish with Prawn Sauce

Groove Temple played at the Sussex Inlet Tavern on Saturday 2nd September. Whilst the locals were scarce on the night, the restaurant aromas were ubiquitous and GT would like to pass tribute onto the chef at the venue. The grilled fish fillet with prawn sauce is a “must have” from the Tavern’s menu. The chef is obviously a man who takes his work very seriously.

Warning -combustible materials

Groove Temple survived another night of Shellharbour madness on Saturday 26th August at the Shellharbour Workers Club. The guys were very fortunate to have another regular, Matt Schlam, warm up the crowd for them with his blistering guitar and riveting rock renditions of some truly classic pub rock tunes.

A hard act to follow because of his musical excellence, but the boys rose to the challenge. In particular Dr K stated that he was inspired by Matt’s precise, professional work. The good doctor certainly came out of his corner hitting hard and low with a funkelicious groove attack on Groove Temple’s set list. The rest of the band followed suit, keeping their heads to the ground and quickly coaxing up a full dance floor of Shellharbourians. (That’s two made-up words in one report so far!)

Both acts on the night left the audience calling for more. Seems the party at Shellharbour is never ending and the locals don’t need much fuel to keep the fire going. Fortunately the GT have plenty of the necessary combustibles.

Groove Temple's Ang, Red & Dr K had a collective moment of lucidity on the weekend, when they realised they had been playing together for 6 months, covering 30+ gigs and numerous private functions.

GT reported being happy with the band progress so far but for Ang, nothing happens fast enough: "I've been unhappy with our recording progress so far, but it's self-inflicted due to health problems. I attempted a vocal session in the studio two weeks ago whilst suffering from asthma and will have to do it again, as it was terrible. In my defence, I didn't realise I was sick, because this whole asthma thing is very subtle. I found out that if you're really fit, you can still suffer from asthma, but not necessarily realise it. I can say that it was really hard to sing. I'm all grown up now, as of Wednesday. So I'm dealing with it differently now and doing what I'm told. Great. Life has come back to full circle. Just perfect!

Nevertheless Ang and the boys hit the ground running on the weekend and hit some scorching home runs with some of their favourite dance tunes at the Dandaloo Hotel at Kanahooka on Friday and again at the Grand Hotel in Kiama on Saturday night.

Red hit some real runs on a different field on Sunday, as his baseball team won their comp, as expected. The man is a champion and the team always looked like winning. Groove Temple news reports that he sounds pretty happy at the moment.

Groove Temple are planning to hit more home runs with some new tunes on Saturday 26th August for the Shellharbour Workers Club from 10:30. Another home game guys!!

Groove Temple extend apologies if any one was inconvenienced with their inability to play on the weekend just gone and now gladly report the brain surgery was successful. All members are ready to fire for the weekend. The boys will be at the Dandaloo Hotel on Friday 18 August to break the drought, followed by the Grand Hotel at Kiama on Saturday 19th August to seriously rock the locals.

The boys all report they are itching to play again and promise to leave a stain or two on the weekend. See you there.

Cancelled gig

Due to unforseen circumstances, Groove Temple is unable to perform on Saturday 12th August at Greenwell Point Bowling Club. Groove Temple News noted that lead vocalist Ang was guarded in his comments about the incident, but did say that ".......from a safety perspective, no musician should ever be left alone naked, with a jar of honey, a hairbrush and....ummm, sorry, no further comment..."

Groove Temple News reports this week that the band had their best ever gig at the Goulburn Workers Club on Saturday 5th August. They rocked, blasted, grooved, funked out, flailed, seduced and boogied the town. No prisoners were taken; -sorry, no room, the band wheels are already packed full of chocolatey musical goodness, and the odd empty Corona.

Groove Temple features three of the most talented and experienced muso's in the business, with Dr K on guitars and vocals, delivering some supremo guitar sounds and even greater licks. The Doctor has been working with an ankle injury of late, but nothing gets in the road of his beloved wah-pedal and to his credit, he hasn't missed a beat during his rehabilitation. Saturday night was proof positive that you can't keep a good man down. He's almost recovered.

Ang on lead vocals and guitars has been consistently punching out juicy grooves in Groove Temple and as the band's stage sound technician, has the delicious and enviable position of controlling the band sound. Ang has always waxed lyrical about the joy of mixing and playing in G.T: "I love having good sounds to play with. The guys make it easy. Dr K's sound and technical proficiency speaks for itself. Also he clearly loves playing. I think he's the type of guy who would shrivel up and die if he wasn't playing in a happening band. Red is also a true pro and goes to the trouble of setting up the right sound for every gig. He always tunes his kit, always. As for his kick drum sound, he combines art and science to deliver the true heart beat of the band. It's alchemy. On Saturday I saw him measure ambient air temperature, determine room humidity via a micro-chip installed behind his left ear, calculated the "vibe" of the room, multiplied the sum by 3.14285714285, (without a calculator!) then maybe he divides this value by the square root of all evil? Well, at least that's what I think he does..Maybe not....Aaah....My head hurts now....this interview is now over...." (Editors note: Subject lapsed into coma shortly after interview was terminated.)

Groove Temple look forward to Saturday 12th August at the Greenwell Point Bowling Club, and hope to see a repeat of their last gig there in July. GET READY TO BOOGIE HARD, PEOPLE!!!!

Groove Temple managed to land in the NSW coastal resort of Huskisson on the weekend of 28th & 29th July during the Jervis Bay Whale Festival and they discovered that there were no parades, no people dressed as whales, nobody selling whale flavoured-bar snacks and not even a whale band playing eerie whale song music. (Thank God for that!) In fact when they arrived on Friday evening, there were few people, save for some romantic couples having intimate dinners.

This all changed immediately when Groove Temple started playing. People came from out of nowhere, possibly some from trees, others from nearby venues and certainly at least a few were beamed down from alien spaceships currently circling the planet. Thankfully Groove Temple had an instant audience...."Just add water", or perhaps like the instructions on a packet of fireworks: "Light the Touchpaper and STAND WELL CLEAR".

Cheers and ovations from Groove Temple to the first dancer of the night, an elderly gentleman, quietly having dinner with his partner. He was truly infected by G.T.'s vibe. As soon as they started playing, he got up and danced a solo tribute to his infectious "joie de vivre". It looked like something out of a 1960's European "art house" film. Ahhh, the things you see when you haven't got a video camera.

This kicked off a great night for Groove Temple and in vocalist Ang's words: "This guy was cool to watch, kind of gracefully awkward, but still full of childish energy. Pretty soon a beautiful young thing started cutting some grooves with him. Must be she was taken by his sexy moves. So his wife had to join in then, to muscle out the competition. It got really crowded, so she had to take him home. Obviously they were feeling the love, or she was going to kill him. This is about where I remembered I can't laugh and sing at the same time. The Husky Pub crowd have always been a great source of entertainment for us."

Yet another case of allowing the audience to take over and letting them entertain the band. Seems to happen a lot with Groove Temple. Lets see what happens with the infectious GT thing at the next gig on Saturday 5th Aug at the Goulburn Workers Club. The band have been assured there is no whale meat on the venue menu.

No apologies

Shellharbour Workers Club lived up to its reputation as the place to be in the Illawarra on Saturday night 22 July. It was a creeper. The main lounge was very quiet early on in the evening, but DJ Wayne from Hits Alive managed to get them all shaking and a rocking with his huge sound system and even bigger hits. The guys from Groove Temple claim that size does matter after all, Wayne.

Once Wayne had the good people at Shellharbour primed to within an inch of their lives, it was time for Groove Temple to move in for the kill. The carnage was terrible. Hardly any room on the dance floor and sadly, no booty left unshaken, and all the victims were young and innocent. The band were hoping that there will be ample time for rehabilitation for the poor Shellharbourians before the next booking but refused to extend apologies to members and their families for any sore feet, hangovers or strained gluteals. (Notice we didn't say genitals.) The band's only comment on this issue came from vocalist, Ang who stated: "IF you go out to see Groove Temple AND have a good night, you'll have to learn to deal with it!!"

The real risk is that the scene might be repeated on Friday night 28th July at Huskisson Pub. The only way to find out for sure is to come along and bring your dancing shoes, your booty and some sports liniment, just in case. Oh yeah....and bring a friend too. You'll have someone to talk to and maybe go home with if you're lucky.

Well, the party atmoshpere at the Ocean Beach Hotel on Friday 14th July was almost edible. A delicious crowd of eager dancers were on the dance floor blowing off steam, the rain was teeming down outside and Groove Temple's engine room was stoked to full bore. The venue windows were fogged up like the inside of a Datsun 120y in Lovers Lane. Celebrations covered a 21st birthday for Mel, a 28th for Ben, and for Groove Temple, another graduation. Yes, Dr K, guitarist, now has a double degree in Computing Science and Law, making him doubly dangerous. This makes two Groove Temple academic high fives for the year as Ang (Vocalist), received his Diploma in Human Resources earlier in June. There ain't no dummies on the Groove Temple stage.

Dr K and his mates were partying big time on Friday and did some major damage. Troy was noted to have left his mark on the night and Dr K partied hard all night but eventually had to say uncle due to an ankle. Watch for evidence at the next few weeks gigs.

Groove Temple are scheduled to play the Shellharbour Workers Club on Saturday 22nd July from 10:00pm and are hoping to inflict somewhat less damage. No promises though. Participants would be advised to consider wearing the following PPE:
-Hardhat. (Must have plastic chinstrap. Yeah, yeah -just like the Village People!)
-Reflective Safety Vest.
-Safety boots, non slip sole variety is preferable (Steel caps optional).
-Safety goggles.
-Kid leather gloves (for that tight, comfortable fit, that we know you love).
-Sonic ear valve protection. (Only the Swiss made variety)
-Lubricant.
-Kneepads.
-Chocolate.

Kidnap the chef

Groove Temple were honoured to solidly rock the sleepy NSW Coastal town of Culburra on Saturday 8th July and were very impressed with the quality of dancers, "chair dancers" included. It was about quality, not quantity for a change. Culburra is in quiet winter mode. Not so for Groove Temple and not so for the venue. The dance floor may made need replacement after some heavy duty Saturday action, some from locals, some from tourists. Special mention should be made of one dancer who despite injury (sustained during a shopping adventure in Melbourne) danced through the pain with friends most of the night. This was accompanied by the demented cries of "Go you Aussie Rockers" (Voiced repeatedly by a suspected ex-member of the Welsh Rugby Choir - boy is he LOUD!!!)

Now Groove Temple have always displayed a keen interest in venue restaurants, snack bars, pub grub and freshly baked sausage rolls at 2am. Saturday night was no exception as the Chinese restaurant in the Culburra Bowling & Recreation Club is to die for and is the home of one very talented Chinese Chef. There was talk about kidnapping him, tying him up, hiding him in the lighting rig, but he deserves better. Perhaps a Knighthood, an OBE or at least a mention in the Queen's Birthday Honours List for services to the hospitality industry. The garlic was so strong in the Mongolian Lamb that locals should expect to see a shortage in the local green grocers. Investors would be well advised to invest in garlic futures for short term, high risk gains.

Maybe he can organise home delivery, or mail order, or maybe some budding young scientist can invent a teletransporter for restaurant meal delivery. Why not? It's for a good cause. (See Star Trek Videos for more information.) It is for the good of mankind. Go on, do something useful in your life.

Sadly the boys had to leave the restaurant.....no we mean the venue, as there are other gigs to attend. The guys are looking forward to playing the Ocean Beach Hotel on Friday 14th July from 9:00pm. Be there and get ready to see some serious dance floor action. Shake your booty people!

Blame it on the boogie

Despite expectations, Groove Temple reported one of their best South Coast weekends yet for Friday 30th June at the Dandaloo Hotel in Kanahooka and Saturday 1st July at the Greenwell Point Bowling Club near Nowra. The "Dandy" was at it's usual form, with the locals letting off enough steam to power the 3801 loco up to Robertson. What is it with the locals? Is there something in the water? Maybe we should "blame it on the boogie". This is becoming a regular gig for the guys who seem to get on well with the local barflys. It's surprising how much energy they have, they keep dancing and dancing. There would have been some sore heads and some very sore feet on Saturday morning.

The Greenwell Point Bowling Club on Saturday was a real find for the guys. This was a new venue for the band and apparently the locals have been groove starved for some time. They responded by dancing and shaking all night and hounding the guys to play more and more. Most people missed the courtesy bus because they were partying on. The good hearted management refused however to let every one walk home so they put on an extra shift.

The band were most appreciative. Clinical tests have shown that pedestrians can do a lot of damage to the front of a vehicle travelling at 90km/h.

The guys are playing at Culburra Recreation Club on Saturday 8th July and will be taking advantage of some delicious curry from the club restaurant and will also be punching out some tasty grooves. Be there if you have the need for boogie and don't blame it on the GT if you feel tired the next day.

Perfect Match

Saturday 24th June was a good night for Groove Temple. The boys and entourage kicked off the night attending a birthday bash, in the Shellharbour Workers Club Chinese Restaurant before playing. Meanwhile, Quini and Gazz warmed up the crowd to puuuurrrfffection during dinner and the chef cooked up a storm for the guys, who were glowing by the time they reached the stage. The Chilli beef was to blame.

Happy Birthday to Liam (so young, so innocent) from Dr K and the rest of Groove Temple, family, friends, flatmates, entourage and other hangers on.

Groove Temple have always thought of themselves as a dance band and the crowd at Shellharbour Workers Club have always thought of themselves as party animals. A perfect match by any standard. So the love affair continued on Saturday 24th June when the band brought some sure fire dance floor grooves to bear on a more than willing crowd. They took no prisoners. There were some pretty serious dancers on the floor on Saturday with some doing impressions of dancing chickens whilst others seemed to be imitating cockroaches on a frying pan. The ones wriggling on the floor may have been doing "the worm" or just tripped over and were trying to get up. Nobody really knows.

Ang, Dr K and Red were totally chuffed to meet up with local musos and crew also working at Shelly's on the night, Wayne B, Cathie, Gazz Bromley, Dave Quini, Kathie and Cathy. (The spelling of some "Kathy's" may have been changed to protect the illiterate -sorry about that.)

Groove Temple are looking forward to rocking the Dandaloo Hotel at Kanahooka on Friday 30th June (Accountant's New Years Eve) and trying out a new venue for the band on Sat 1st July at Greenwell Point Bowling Club. If there's a spark of a party, Groove Temple will throw fuel on it. Guaranteed.

World Fuel Crisis

Groove Temple blasted away some cobwebs in the South Coast resort town of Huskisson on Friday 9th June and made the huge crowd at the Husky Pub very happy. Despite cold, wet weather, the venue was very busy and the fact that hip shaking and grooving kept people warm was a delight for both the band and the punters alike. The boys left the venue to the sounds of "...we want more, we want more..." A great way to finish the night.

The Grand Hotel at Kiama was also a great night, with tourists and locals mixing it and pressing the flesh and keeping warm in a tremedous display of free love, the likes of which could solve the world energy crisis if harnessed correctly. The band believes there is still an afterglow in the vicinity of the dance floor at the Grand and if you walk past that dance floor now you can still feel some residual heat. Pub management are currently working feverishly to jury rig a generator to try and save on electricity bills.

The weekend of the 17th and 18th July is an off weekend for the boys as they are currently involved with some top secret recording. They won't tell anyone what they're doing. (Unless they ask.)

Groove Temple will be back on board and off the streets again for Saturday 24th June at the Shellharbour Workers Club. They're trying to wear out the dance floor.

Podium anyone?

For a few of the more active lasses on the dance floor at Goulburn Workers, the only thing missing was a podium. Groove Temple was more than willing to accommodate the eager crowds need more songs to groove to, even inspiring a few burly blokes to pull out classic dance moves such as the lawnmower, sprinkler and feeding the chooks. Thankfully no grass was cut nor animals harmed in the dance orgy that followed.

After such an experience the boys are amped to see what moves they can induce from the groovers at Husky on Friday and the Kiama Grand on Saturday.

Let the recording begin

Groove Temple embarked on a new direction on the weekend by commencing test recording of their live performances. The purpose of the recordings is for future demos and other projects the band is working on. All top secret stuff of course. They may tell you if you ask nicely, and to date no GT band member has been known to bite. So when you're at the next gig, ask away. See what they say. You would notice an extra mixing desk on stage when the band is recording live performances, usually under the mastership of Guitarist and resident Funkologist, Doctor K, Groove Temple's technical recording commander-in-chief.

Lead Vocalist Ang claimed on the Friday at the Dandaloo Hotel "We wanted to see if we could get a decent drum sound live, to save on studio time. Red is endorsed by Tama and has access to some sweet equipment, including drum mics from Billy Hydes Drum Clinic that also double as weapons of mass seduction. The resulting sound was earthshaking. The experiment was a success from the very start. Dr K's digital recorder sucked it right up. It was all there. Loud and clear. The best kick drum sound ever, ever, ever, ever. (I think I have made myself clear here.) We've decided now to go to demo stage immediately. We start doing digitally synchronised recording on Saturday 3rd June and will keep taking it one step at a time. This is so much fun."

The guys obviously had a good night on Friday, with the locals showing their usual spark, putting on a great show for the band. So much so that the guys are eager to come back, preferring to play there on a Friday night rather than the Thursday. Special thanks goes to a guest appearance from Jimmy Barnes and Mark Knopfler's girlfriend.

Saturday night was a horse of a different colour at the Shellharbour Workers Club. Scores of eager dancers crowded onto the dance floor, shaking and grooving to the infectious and eclectic beats of the masters of the dance floor, Groove Temple. There were a few birthdays and a big birthday for Shellharbour Workers Club itself celebrating it's 50th Birthday on the weekend. A pretty busy night. The vibe was one of the best there so far as the party atmoshpere was pre-primed before the guys even got there.

Groove Temple will be playing at the Goulburn Workers Club on Saturday 3rd June and are expecting some really cold autumn weather in the Southern Highlands, but hopefully a warm reception from the locals. Ang loves playing there because he gets to turn his PA up and "pump some air". Some ten year olds never grow up, do they?

Searching for the Inner Blue Groove

The weekend of 20th and 21st May saw Groove Temple searching for the Inner Blue Groove.* No, not belly button gazing, more like trying new experiences together by the way of groove experimentation. Few patrons at the Bomaderry Hotel on Friday night would have realised that the sound check was a subtle groove jam, with Red laying down some deeply incisive beat patterns over a pre-recorded bass and guitar rhythm. If they didn't notice that, they would have noticed the boyish and wicked grins on all three of GT's crew when they realised they were on a good thing.

Ted Hughes' "Thought Fox"** sneaked into the conciousness of all three in a short, delicious moment of creation.

The actual gig was pretty quiet, but the audience were very responsive. Creating a vibe early on likely set the scene for some dance floor action, and the the boys lit a fire which was difficult to put out, with some patrons having to be escorted out by security so the guys could pack up their gear in peace. Lead vocalist Ang said "We definitely made an impression and all three of us walked out of there very happy knowing we did a good job."

GT will be haunting dance floors at the Dandaloo Hotel, Kanahooka, on Friday 26th May and the Shellharbour Workers Club on Saturday 27th May. The guys are looking forward to rocking the locals. "Maybe we can help others find their Inner Blue Groove."

This week, Groove Temple were honoured to have two new members born into the ranks of it's loyal supporters on the same day. Welcome Cash, we hope you learn how to play drums and drive your parents crazy. As for Luke he'll probably play football and his father may well drive him crazy. May the 4th be with you, Luke.

Regardless of distractions, Groove Temple played to their usual excellent form on Friday night at the Ocean Beach Hotel at Shellharbour. Punters were treated to some powerful dance floor grooves, too powerful to resist in fact, so they filed on the the dance floor like loyal groovesters. There were arms and elbows flying every where. The ones with the lack of motivation to make it to the floor danced where they stood. The Ocean Beach was rocking on Friday night!

The Sussex Inlet Tavern was also fun on the weekend and Saturday night was pretty typical of the seaside hamlet, leading into the winter months, with crowd numbers a little down and the locals fortifying themselves against the cold with dance floor gyrations and lots of BW&S.

Ang, lead singer during the load-out had cause to remember a similar gig in another band, years ago. "While loading out on Saturday night, one of us noticed a lurker and we had to be careful not to lose any gear."

"One night I found a guy hiding under the band truck when I was in a band called “Lionheart”. I pretended not to notice and shoved a couple of stands under the truck, nice heavy chromed Tama's. Got him on the head and neck. Poor guy didn’t get to steal anything that night and when he came out hot and ready for a fight, he didn’t bring one of those stands with him. I still had one in my hand and when I asked him if he was alright, he was taken slightly aback but had the hide to actually swear at me and slink off. By the time he had the courage to come back with a mate, there were four of us, all holding mic stands, smiling sweetly, wishing them a pleasant evening. Ben P. was the bass player then. He looked like a cross between Shrek and Conan the Barbarian. I was a skinny runt then, but Ben came from heavily boned Slavic stock and could scare a poltergeist. Later, we laughed so hard I thought my kidney was going to pop out. Dirty thieves are the natural enemy of the gigging musician. If you see one, poke him in the eye.

Ahh....gone are the good old days when you could bash with impunity."

G.T. are playing a private function for the weekend of the 13th May and will be back in the public limelight on Friday 19th May at the Bomaderry Hotel, an old stomping ground. See you there.

Anzac Day Hoover won't stop G.T.

Groove Temple played at Husky Pub on Friday 28 April and compared to Easter it was very quiet. The locals claimed it was due to the Anzac Day celebrations earlier in the week, sucking up cash and breaking the collective bank. Perhaps there's a giant Hoover extracting cash above the two-up ring at the local RSL. Ang from Groove Temple claims it was more to do with the fact that Easter is over and we wont see big crowds in the venues until they grow their winter coat. "Same story every year. Community poverty is a myth. They're still drinking, just that they do it at home when the weather turns cold. They'll come out again, and we'll be waiting for them......like lizards on a rock."

But it's more than just rock, it's also funk & groove and the hardy souls that did turn up for the weekend's gigs were treated to prime party pump from Groove Temple. The Grand at Kiama on Saturday was another good example, yes, quiet to start with, but once the momemtum builds up in the venue and the dance floor gets a work out, everyone gets into it. That's what makes the GT boys happy, and they will be happy again to be playing back so soon at the Ocean Beach Hotel on Friday 4th May and then Sussex Inlet Tavern on Saturday 5th.

"We can't wait. The Ocean Beach Hotel is always a great gig and the food at the Sussex Inlet Tavern is unbeatable." Bring it on boys.

P.S. a special mention to Dave. D., the bar manager at the Grand at Kiama for efforts above and beyond the call of duty. Unstoppable, he sang a number with the band and spent most of his time dancing (whilst working), all this while sober. For this alone he deserves a knighthood. Cheers Dave.

Easter Weekend Riot/Squeezing out the groove.

Easter Weekend on the South Coast of NSW was not marred by violence and rioting, rather by Groove Temple's riotous good time at their gigs. Thursday 12th April saw punters galore packing into the Ocean Beach Hotel at Shellharbour, Dr K's hometown. "It's like the summer that never ends." According to Ang, lead vocalist, who loves the way the Ocean Beach continues to kick on in popularity, even though the weather heads into winter mode. "We like playing there. We squeeze out the groove and the whole room kicks along!"

Culburra Bowling Club, further down the coast was a little quieter on Saturday but the small audience were as usual really into it. "Its kind of strange how the patrons treat this venue more as a sit down concert; preferring to sit and clap and groove around in their chairs, rather than dance." Says Dr. K ............
....Ang's theory is: "I'm sure there was at least one happy couple "saving their mojo" for more important things after the gig. You couldn't half tell...I understand that there are priorities to deal with in these situations. I often have to save energy for "later on".."

Special mention should be made to the undisputed kings of Culburra: Lach, Jock, John, Phil and the rest of the crew at the Culburra Bowlo. Royalty can be found in the most unlikely of places. Cheers from Groove Temple.

Husky Pub on Easter Sunday was an absolute blast for the guys....."They were dancing BEFORE we started playing.....how could we lose?" Said Groove Temple drummer, Red. Needless to say it was a huge night for all and a special night for Eileen & Davy, visiting Scots, celebrating their wedding anniversary with family and friends. This accopella ensemble belted out "Whisky in a jar" after closing, but the party has to end sometime. Pity that, as Groove Temple unanimously claimed they could have squeezed out groove for hours more. Easy as. The vibe was so electric.

Groove Temple has the weekend of 21st and 22nd April off for much needed beer, sleep and surfing.

New Venue and New Tunes

Groove Temple had the privilege of rocking a new venue for the band on Saturday 8th April. "Ahh.....fresh meat. Nothing like it, makes my blood pump faster..." reported Ang, lead singer. Ang staunchly claims he's the lead singer, not the ring leader. "These guys don't need encouragement, nor leadership, they sometimes need hosing down, but you get that. We did some songs as a dare on the weekend and were amused and surprised that they worked. Great fun. We're going back to Goulburn Workers Club, they really know how to party. Also its a nice big venue so I get to throw the PA into low gear and get some air pumping. Even better fun."

Groove Temple have a big Easter weekend lined up. They will be rocking the Ocean Beach Hotel on Thursday 13th April, then Culburra Bowling Club on Saturday 15th April and then Huskisson Pub on Easter Sunday 16th April, from 9:00pm. Thankfully the following weekend is a breather, for some essential beer drinking and barbecue time.

Guitar Sound Heaven/Weapons of Mass Seduction.

Groove Temple cranked out some classic dance floor grooves at the Moruya Golf Club on Friday 31st March and again at O'brien's Hotel in Narooma on Saturday 1st April. It was, according to the boys, a quiet weekend on the South Coast, but not on the Groove Temple dance floors. The band didn't hold back and both dance floors certainly did get a work out. In fact, at Obriens, the dance floor was the busiest place in the venue.

Dr K seemed quite happy being on a sweet ride after using a cool new guitar pedal. "Happy days" according to the "Doctor of Funkology" who truly managed to push his guitar sound to another level. Well, probably hitting a blinding golf session on Saturday afternoon at Narooma Golf course. Red claims that The Doctor was was "walking six inches off the ground after that."

What could make a drummer happier? A kick drum mic that doubles as a weapon of mass seduction. Red's sound also jumped to another level on the weekend, taking the band to another level with a kick drum mic that rocked the rooms with true throb. The punters loved it. How could they not hit the dance floor?

Ang seemed happy too. "I get the best of both worlds: I get to mix the sound so I have the best perspective. I see the end result. I know it's really not all for me, it's for the audience, but to me it's like ice cream on a hot day... delicious, funky, throbbing, sexy sound. Keeps me breathing."

Groove Temple would like to thank the punters who supported them on the weekend. Ang said: "It's great when people support us, thanks everyone for dancing and grooving with us. Even on a quiet night, we had people hitting the floor. We appreciate that. It makes the effort worthwhile."

Groove Temple will be trying out a new gig on Saturday 8th April at the Goulburn Worker's Club and are unanimously eager to infect a new crowd with the GT groove. Funk it out boys!

Red is not Red

Groove Temple experienced another massive weekend of gigs. But before we get down to the nitty gritty of what happened we must digress...

After stepping off the stage on Saturday night after a five hour marathon the guys were informed that Red was not Red. Huh?

Lead singer Ang reports: "I was just as surprised as the next guy, you think you know someone and 'bam' you just are not sure what is red, blue or green for that matter".

Red was forthright in defending who he is, he is Red, isn’t he? To his credit Red was not angered by the confrontation and was most forgiving of the pissed punter. Not to worry there was apparently a guy named Jesus who had a problem with the whole son of God thing...

Anyway back details about the gigs proper.

Friday night at Huskisson was HUGE. The crowd got right into it, and each other, from the very start and it was most difficult to concentrate on playing whilst loving couples engaged in simulated sex right in front of the band. Guitar player Dr. K reports: "It was really a special moment for me and brought me back to my days writing soundtracks for porn movies. Happy days..."

The guys had to work extra hard on Saturday night at Shelly's as the band booked before them failed to turn up. As a result they laid down five, fabulous and fantastic sets and then laid down quiet literally.

After such a raucous weekend the boys are ready for the peace and tranquillity of a South coast trip and are heading south to Moruya and Narooma for the weekend.

Dance 'til you fall over.

Groove Temple played the Bomaderry Pub on Friday 17th March and were again well received.

Lead singer Ang reports: "They just want to dance. We play dance music. There's not much more to it. The locals like to goose around and dance in front of the band. We encourage this. It's the simplest formula. No point embellishing on the obvious.

The new Groove Temple line up is cementing very well and it shows in our performance. I wont say "rock hard", as this would lead to unavoidable sexual innuendo....so moving on.....the biography for our newest member, Red is being posted shortly. Keep an eye out for it.

It really is all forward from here. The new material is really working well and we're steadily working on some original groove/funk tunes. I'm really happy to be doing some of our own stuff and we're promising to ourselves and to the fans to make it dance floor focussed material.

We played a function at the Wollongong Tennis Club on Saturday. Not a bad venue. We again proved that a tight, dance floor oriented set is a sure fire crowd pleaser. Our last set went for 80 minutes. Debbie Clifford celebrated a milestone event in her life and Debbie and friends partied on like it was an 18th birthday party. A few people fell over. Or maybe it was the same guy falling over repeatedly? Some people are lucky enough to remain teenagers all their lives. A great night with a truly champagne vibe for the whole event.....and Yes, the food was sensational"

The Greek Connection.

Groove Temple rocked the Sussex Inlet Tavern on Saturday night and met with the Greek Connection. As soon as they arrived, the friendly local staff were into it, claiming they could help with the show and one of the kitchen staff very kindly offered the services of one of his fellow staff members as a stripper to accompany the show for the evening. How thoughtful of him.

It was decided however that the gracious offer would be politely declined on the basis that the lady in question did not rehearse with the band and was thus disqualified from performing. This is actually a band rule...As of Saturday 11 March 2006. (Phew!! just got out of that one guys.....Groove Temple doesn't actually rehearse, well not in the traditional sense. Instead they use a form of "virtual rehearsing" with midi files and MP3's.)

Groove Temple gigged the Ocean Beach Hotel at Shellharbour on Friday 3rd March and were distracted to say the least. It was indeed a wild night at the Ocean Beach, and Groove Temple were grateful to be able to play to such a huge crowd. They were even more grateful to see the dancefloor literally packed with gorgeous women.

Lead singer Ang confesses: "It is so hard to concentrate and to be honest, the smile on my face was probably part leer. It's really tough up there and if we don't do it, somebody else would. Some of my mates were watching up the back of the room and I could see they were gorging on the eye candy. So I couldn't help laughing at them too."

"......This is such a great time of year, still warm enough to get around at night in beach wear and not hot enough to make dancing a sweat bath...."

Up on stage however, Groove Temple were putting in some hard yards and encouragement from the audience pushed them even harder. The sweat was flying.

"A strange thing occurred to me with the Ocean Beach crowd: When we play classic dance rock, certain people flock to the dance floor. Then we'd mix in some classic funk and they would pretty much leave the floor, only to be replaced by a different group of dancers. Perhaps this means they are a more "discerning" crowd? By the last set though, the whole place was dancing so it really didn't matter where they were."

We left them demanding more and more and more, but management switched the house the lights on and were giving us the evil eye, so we all went home to a nice cup of tea instead.

"Not me man, I had cocoa"....Nice one Ang.

The Secret Policemans Ball

Groove Temple were party to a top secret operation on the weekend, helping a gorgeous young lady by the name of Liz Joyce celebrate a milestone birthday as a surprise party at the Waters Edge Cafe on the Shoalhaven River. The boys from GT met the challenge of playing in a restricted space in their usual "suck & see" style, delivering a well balanced punchy sound with less than half of their usual amp power.

"It was great to be with people so obviously out for a good time. It's very contagious, and the food was outstanding" reports Ang, lead singer. "I'd never heard of this place before and must have driven past it hundreds of times on the way to other gigs. The Mastright's seriously know what they're doing with food and venue management. The chicken was "delish".... I'm hoping we get more work there, if only just for the food. Gourmet food is one of my weaknesses. Yes, there are many. Oh yes they even made an Italian polenta dish, which scores very highly in my book.(I made sure I gave them a business card before I left)"

"It was a balmy night and I went out for some fresh air and stumbled across a couple making love on the grass of the banks of the Shoalhaven River. They weren't from the party. I think they pretended not to notice me and I was quite amused at my own embarrassment. I retreated back to the party thinking maybe there's something in the air around here."

Back to the party -The food must have done the trick for the band, because they proceeded to play up a storm and it wasn't just some of the local constabulary kicking up their heels. Everyone seemed to be making new friends on the night or catching up with old ones and all had a sensational time. Surely it cant get any better than this.

Groove Temple will be belting out more great some tunes on Friday 3rd March at the Ocean Beach Hotel in Shellharbour (Dr K's home town) and will be eager to have a few beers with the locals. It's a tough life, but somebody has to do it!!!!

Groove Temple has taken on a new life. It’s like the band has had a blood transfusion. All of a sudden there’s a new spring in their step. When the band arrives at a venue, three happy dudes walk into the room. Did spring come early this year in the Southern Hemisphere? It seems to be contagious:

-Friday night at the Bomaderry Hotel was hilarious from a band point of view. The locals are definitely more entertaining than the musicians. There’s no point beating around the bush. The new lounges installed by Warren look really great but were probably not intended for group sex. Glancing to stage left at times was distracting to say the least from a band point of view. They did keep their clothes on but I’m sure the security camera replay would be XXX rated. Maybe Dave B can get us a copy of the security video burnt onto DVD? Then there was a group of three close local friends standing around a table drinking, dancing and playing the goat to the music of G.T. Security had to ask them to leave because one of them had no shoes. So the other two donated a thong each (“flip flops” for any non-Australians.) The security guards were clearly amused, but were having none of it and insisted they finish their beers and leave. Needless to say they spent a long time drinking their last beers, as they were right into the G.T groove and didn’t want to leave. Maybe we’ll see them next time with a pair of shoes each?

-Saturday night at Shellharbour Workers Club was most successful. A healthy crowd on the dance floor and vigorous requests for encore were proof that we got the message across very clearly on the night. We were very pleased that none of the shoes placed on the stage for safekeeping by dancers were glass slippers. Though I’m sure Cinderella didn’t make it home by midnight! Luckily the ugly step sisters were nowhere to be seen.

Groove Temple plays a private function on Saturday 25th February so we wont be able to come out and play, but we will be in public again on Friday 3rd March at the Ocean Beach Hotel, in Shellharbour. See you there.

The Red Dog joins Groove Temple (We told you we'd have some surprises in the new year)

Groove Temple have successfully completed audtions and finally appointed Adrian "Red Dog" Herbert as their new drummer.

Lead vocalist Ang reports: "We spoke to about twenty and auditioned over a dozen drummers, mostly outstanding performers and great people. Red was chosen mainly because of his unique playing style. He brings something to the band. He really is an original and quite a dude. I wont say much about him at the moment as his biography is expected to be on the website shortly and we're taking photo's at gigs. Red can introduce himself and his words should come first. All I'll say is that we're very happy to have him on board.

Special thanks is extended to Matt Sykes from North Nowra, Andrew "Jacko" Jackson, from Thirroul and Simon Grant from Dapto for all doing such excellent fill in work over the transition time when we needed their skills. You helped us keep the show on the road.

We just did our first weekend together and the whole thing went well. Friday was at Huskisson (Husky Pub) and it was a howler. The dance floor was packed and Saturday at the Grand at Kiama was even better. Even the manager was dancing."

THE YEAR IN REVIEW

Groove Temple would like to thank the fans and venues that have supported us throughout 2005. We have reached our objective to 'lower ourselves in the scale of humanity' and must move forward or downward in the new year (the band has not agreed on the direction yet). There have been many highlights including the appearance of Reg Reagan and his distant gay cousin to numerous gigs and lowlights (is that a word?) like the guy who felt compelled to lick the guitar pedals.

The guys will be taking a rest over the Christmas break to recoup and drink excessive amounts of alcohol. We will be back in 2006 with a few suprises and for fans who cannot wait we will be present at the Kiama Grand to usher in the new year. See you there.

LOCAL VENUE BANS BAR TOP DANCING

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT: The Grand Hotel in Kiama, NSW has announced that bar top dancing has been officially banned from their venue in the interest of public safety. It appears that alcohol may adversely affect balance and cordination under certain conditions. In the interest of science, Groove Temple's Medical Laboratories* are currently undergoing an extensive testing regime to determine alcohol's effect on balance and coordination on the human body.

If you would like the opportunity to participate in this unique scientific endeavour, then come along to Groove Temple's next date on Saturday 12 November 2005 at Shelly's (Shellharbour Worker's Club) from 10:00pm onwards. You would be advised to wear sensible shoes and perhaps carry a notebook.

Bowls by the Beach

The inaugural Groove Temple International Bowls festival was held on Friday night at the Warilla Bowls and Recreation club indoor bowling superdome. With white shoes and bowls bags in tow the boys were ready for a fierce competition. After a few heated early exchanges it was evident towards the latter part of the evening that the Brazilian team were the only true competitors. Groove Temple was not to sure if the nationality of the Brazilian players was more in reference to a certain wax job (ouch) rather than any national heritage. They certainly proved to be smooth customers but in the end Groove Temple were triumphant and there was also enough time left to break out a few tunes, a fact that the local punters were happy with. Groove Temple will be getting a few ‘ends’ in (it’s not what you think) before getting down to rock Huskisson Pub to its very foundations, see you there.

Reg Reagan's little brother and his distant gay cousin

Yes the boys went away to the beautiful Riverina region for the weekend, but not before kick starting the week on Thursday with a spell at the Dandaloo Hotel. Memories of foot odour will stay in the scarred memories of each band member as they recall one dancer who took her shoes off and tripped the light fantastic. Attrocious and true, but who cares, you're here for a good time.

The Friday gig at the Star Hotel in Tumut was a pleasant surprise. The place was packed and the Riverina seemed to be having a bit of a reprieve from the drought, so perhaps there was a bit more party in the air. Whatever the reason, the guys didn't care as the Star was the place to be. A guest appearance was made by Reg Reagan's little known little brother, who spent most of his night in front of Groove Temple's lead vocalist singing, and breathing in his face. How nice. His first name may be Milo.

The Tumut pie shop was popular at 2:30am on Saturday morning. Geez those pies taste good after copious amounts of beer at that time of the morning.

It rained most of the weekend and the locals seemed very happy about that. Saturday at the Star was a bit quieter, but that didn't stop the more enthusiastic stompers. Surprisingly, another of Reg Reagan's relatives attended on the night. This time it was his distant cousin, who is a little gay but this is not confirmed. Perhaps his boyfriend is. His first name is probably Marmaduke. There were some sore heads on Sunday morning. The police didn't come. Nobody died. All good.

Groove Temple will debut at the Warilla Bowing Club (a coastal town with lots of caravans, near Shellharbour). Lead vocalist Ang claims: "We thought we'd give it a bash. I'd heard they've put bands on again and a new venue is always good for the band. Also I believe they serve alcohol at the bar if you pay them money."

Shop Front Blues

Groove Temple hit the South Coast of New South Wales for the October long weekend, playing Moruya on the Friday night and Narooma on the Saturday.

The boys kicked off the weekend waking up the Moruya Golf Club, playing to a small but appreciative audience. "Go the limbo!!" The locals seem to have a good sense of humour and did their best to keep the band entertained. They have a huge dance floor and most of it was used up at some stage, mostly with feet, but at times with other body parts.

Narooma was a horse of a different colour altogether. The local blues festival managed to attract huge crowds and many overloaded blues fans needed to escape the festival hungry for something different. Groove Temple served up plenty of rock, groove and dance floor pumping tunes. It did the job. O'briens was rocking!

The boys were in for a surprise with their accomodation. They were booked into a local motel as usual, but got bumped by accident. So the manager set the band up on mattresses on the floor in a property owned by his family. This was a recently vacated shop front office space for a nursing care group. Yes. On the main street of town. Comfortable but bizzare. No complaints from the boys, all three slept like nursed babies.

G.T. head off to the Riverina region again on the weekend and will load up the rickshaw (cheaper fuel bills) to play the Dandaloo Hotel Dapto on Thursday 6th October to warm up, then to Tumut at the Star Hotel on Friday and Saturday night. The locals are always good value. "Mmmmmmmmmmmm fried chicken and beer!!!"

"Brothers in dog" at the Ocean Beach Hotel

Groove Temple reported a great night for all at the Ocean Beach Hotel on Friday 23rd September. The dance floor was pumping, the band was rocking and the punters were in par-tay mood. Everyone seemed to be having a blast. Special mention goes to the birthday people on the night, ranging from ages 22 to 51. Names have been withheld to protect the innocent. To be fair -one observation from the band vocalist, Ang, was: "The older ones seemed to have all the party power in them and definitely more staying power. What's going on here?"

The band would also like to say hello to the "brothers in dog" -these guys like to have a civilised, social drink together and happen to each own a dog from the same litter, so they have been officially christened "dog brothers". Names have been withheld yet again to protect the innocent, especially the pups, whose privacy of course must be respected. It was indeed a pleasure to have a drink with them. Cheers gentlemen.

Groove Temple head away this weekend to Moruya on Friday 30th September at the Moruya Golf Club and then to O'briens Hotel at Narooma -"The pub with the million dollar view"- for Saturday 1st October. Should be a huge weekend and no prisoners will be taken. (No room in the trailer).

True staying power

Groove Temple had a great night on Saturday but were most disappointed that the bar top dancer didn't do her thing at the Grand Hotel at Kiama. A bit tired perhaps? No feet touched the bar.

It was far from a quiet night. Fortunately the band were treated to a spectacular display of dirty dancing, nipple rubbing, gyrating hips.....the works....Unfortunately it was from "Morton", a 110kg ex-footballer. What a performance. It was most entertaining for some. Still, he is a funny guy and it must be said that he is a gentleman. Morton didn't last the night however, going home early and leaving the visiting hockey and soccer team girls to show the meaning of true staying power. The girls showed great form, taking over the dance floor and invading the back room at the Grand, attending to some obscure drinking games probably well into the night. (The "10 cent drinking game"? -Possibly illegal in some states.)

Apparently Kiama police cells were empty Sunday morning, so it was assummed that all went well.

Groove Temple will be at the Ocean Beach Hotel at Shellharbour on Friday night and expect it to be a huge night. Be there for the fun.

Reg Reagan Makes An Unexpected Appearance At Sussex Inlet RSL

A good time was had by all at the Sussex Inlet RSL, including the bucks party that was present. Due to a severe shortage of the opposite sex the boys were reduced to providing lap dances for each other. Although, it has to be said that such antics did not even come close to the excitment present when Reg Reagan let fly at the band for playing 'fag' music. Oh well you can please some of the people some of the time... Groove Temple will be taking a well deserved rest this weekend to recoup from the events at Sussex Inlet and they will be back at the Grand Hotel Kiama, Saturday 24th, and will take all hecklers on personally and with requisite force. Liquid Gold!

Groove Temple enjoyed the scenic Husky Pub on Friday night. The band dished up some tasty tunes to keep the young crowd on the dance floor. After a great night of fun, the band loaded the semi trailer and headed south to the always popular O'Briens Hotel in Narooma.
The locals were out in force and in a major party mood. The Narooma Lions AFL team had a big win and celebrated with a mixture of dancing? and a belly full of liquid gold to keep the band and crowd amused. The band did their usual rock solid performance and had the crowd screaming for more.

Saturday 3rd of September the boys return to Sussex Inlet RSL. A big crowd is expected and the band is always excited to play there.

Rattling cages.

Groove Temple terrorised the Riverina region of NSW on the weekend. They managed to rattle a few cages and wake up some neighbours in the Town of Tumut, but not before gracing the Dandaloo Hotel at Dapto with their presence. The Dandaloo is always a great warm up gig for the weekend and the relaxed atmosphere is usually contagious.

Tumut was pretty busy on the weekend and the local football team made legends of themselves by winning a key match on home turf. The band has a message for "Titta Thomas".....no we don't play "Danny Boy" and no he can't sing with the band and yes we are mongrels. The band was assisted by other local legends who sang and played during the last set on Saturday night. Thanks for your support guys.

Groove Temple drove out of Tumut in the early Sunday morning light blanketed by a thick fog. At least part of the "fog" was not due to natural occurrences. They have to stop eating those chilli dishes.

If the shoehorn fits

Groove Temple carefully squeezed into the Grand Hotel, Kiama on Saturday 30 July and were treated to a good show by the locals. Yes the bar top dancer was in great form and didn't let the boys down. Then there was the Melbourne lad who danced so hard, he lost the sole of his shoe. (Left his "soul" on the dancefloor?) He apparently got a lift home.

The weekend of 5th & 6th August is a rest weekend. There is a major wedding event happening and batteries need to be charged for 11th 12th & 13th August. Groove Temple is playing at the Dandaloo Hotel on Thursday 11th August, then off to the Riverina again to play at the Star Hotel in Tumut for Friday and Saturday night. All members of the band have agreed in their down time to charge up the batteries via the process of copious beer drinking and tantric sex. "We suffer for our art"

Groove Temple successfully cracked a new venue again on Saturday 23rd July, this time at at Shellys at Shellharbour. Thanks to loyal Groove Temple supporters, the night was a big one. Dr K was obviously very happy to be playing so close to home. The boys stepped up to the mark, playing extra time as the first act didn't make it to the venue on the night.

It should be said there were some pretty "full-on" dancers and some natural comedians on the dance floor. Also there were lots of celebrations, mainly birthdays, in fact a ludicrous number. What is it with Shellharbour? Did everyone have a birthday on Saturday? Maybe they just needed an excuse to party. Groove Temple look forward to playing there again.

Saturday 30th July will see Groove Temple squeezing in to the Grand Hotel in Kiama. Ang (Vocalist) claims "We need a shoe horn to fit into this venue. I'm bringing my best one on Saturday. Maybe a scotch will make it easier."

Friday night 15th July was a pearler for Groove Temple at the Ocean Beach Hotel, Shellharbour for the second week in a row. The boys jumped out of the box strongly and the friendly local crowd responded by partying well into the night. Like last week, there was still very little room to move on the dance floor so the young ladies present were again forced to bump and grind in very close proximity......and some young ladies took the initiative and pushed it one step further and left nothing at all to the imagination. They probably stole the show. Somebody has to do this job.

Saturday night was free, as one GT member had a buck's party to attend. Surely having two drummers at such an event would always be tragic. It's all about going away with the boys and "lowering one's self in the scale of humanity". No doubt the rest of the band is going to hear all about it for the next few gigs. Saturday 23rd July will see Groove Temple at Shelly's (Shellharbour Worker's Club) at Shellharbour. It's a late start and finishes at 2am, so the boys will be sure to have their Weetbix first. Come along and have a groove with the band in the main lounge.

The weekend just gone saw Groove Temple cracking a new venue for the boys. Friday 8th July was at the Ocean Beach Hotel at Shellharbour. Vocalist, Ang intimated to Groove Temple News that...."It was nice to be a virgin again, even if it was only for the night."

There was a good turn out on the night, despite attempts by mother nature to keep the punters away with torrential rain. There was little room to move on the dance floor, so some girls made do by dancing really close together. Distracting.

Saturday night was at the Shoalhaven Heads Bowling & Recreation Club for an exuberant dance crowd. They didn't want to let Groove Temple go home on Saturday. Great to see people having a good time.

Friday night 15th July will see Groove Temple doing a return gig at the Ocean Beach Hotel, Shellharbour. The boys are apparently looking for a strong follow up gig. See you there.

Haven't you people got babysitters to go home to?

It was a very big weekend for the Groove Temple crew. "Husky Pub was rocking on and lived up to our expectations." Smiling faces, dirty dancing, no fights and guaranteed hangovers for Saturday morning. What more could they ask for?.....and the food was excellent as usual!

Saturday night 2nd July was even bigger. Groove Temple did their community service thing and assisted by providing the entertainment for a local pre-school fund raiser. Over $4000 was raised and the parents in attendance were in serious party mode. Vocalist Ang was seen riding a tricycle across the dance floor for a charity bet and oh yes: embarrassing pics may soon be available on this website! There were a few legends on the night and some very committed dancers.

Getting them to go home was a challenge: "Haven't you people got baby sitters to go home to?"

Friday 8th July will see Groove Temple pestering the locals at the Ocean Beach Hotel, Shellharbour. This will be a new venue for the boys and they eagerly anticipate some fresh meat, or maybe the same could be said for the locals. Either way, they're always keen for a new venue.

Saturday 9th July will be at the Shoalhaven Heads Bowling and Recreation Club. Come along and groove out if you can.

Dancing on pool tables?

The boys from Groove Temple are excited because they've discovered a great new gig. They played the Sussex Inlet Tavern on Saturday 25th June. The locals went off and some naughty girls had their wrists slapped for dancing on pool tables. Groove Temple are hoping to be working there in the summer months, it should be big. Check this site for more dates. GO THE PANTHERS!!! The Sussex Inlet footy team won on Saturday. Some of the boys had a big night. Come to think of it, so did some of the ladies.....Girls please don't dance on the pool tables again. The pub might blame the the poor innocent band. They're good boys.
Friday 1st July 2005 is at the Husky Pub. Always a good gig, always good fun. It should be good to mix it with the locals again. "I might go the grilled salmon if it's still on the menu" Says Ang, vocalist. "I love rocking this room and I love their food. Mmmmmmm the surf and turf is pretty good too....Mmmmmmm beef!" Come along if you feel the need.
Saturday 2nd July 2005 is a Pre School Fund raiser at the Bomaderry RSL with $15 door entry. All are welcome, food is included and there will be fundraising activities during the evening. It's for a good cause, bring your spare change with you too and be prepared to have some fun. Anyone who's anyone will be there. See you there.
